I'd be happy with more of a "Going going gone" type of system. As it is now auctions run forever or until the item sold and the item priced the least is always the one first visible on the item menu. Rather then by item price to determine the sorting, its "going going gone" timer effects the sorting.

Player picks the item they wish to sell, they set the price and POOF it goes from any inventories and to the auction house for a set period of days till the auction expires. After the time expires they either get the item back and can try to resell again, or they get their money if it did sell. Either way the auction keeps moving in a circle and lets time and not price determine what makes it to front page top listing.

My own hate topic of the auction house is, please for the love of The Twelve stop making us have to split stacks to sell things and let us choose how many items of a stack we want to buy. This is beyond old >o< we shouldn't have to split stacks to make bite sized stacks to sell. Let us PICK how many of a stack we want to buy. If I want to buy three of a thing then I want to buy three of a thing. NOT 99, 25, 10, 30 or whatever of that thing just because no one happened to put up a stack of three for sale.

Bob buys yours for 3,000g as it's the cheapest. However

Had you'd set yours to 4998g Bob would still have bought it.

You've now lost out on 1998g in total. And also left yourself open to be undercut further lowering the value of the item faster than people can actually purchase them.

    ...
Your logic is flawed. If the price is bloated Bob would just go gather the material and make the saw himself if there wasn't a good deal on the marketplace.

It's like saying even though Bob pirated a song worth 1$ that he would still buy the song for 1$ if he couldn't get it for free.

It all comes down to what an individual is willing to pay for something. Bob may be a buyer at 3000g and not 4998g.

The auction house is not broken, there is no reason to fix it. The ability to change prices etc keep it from becoming stale and having to wait to re-list stuff because people aren't will to pay your price and there's someone else willing to sell it cheaper.

Please do not modify the auction house in order to artificially inflate prices and favor sellers over consumers.

There needs to be a rule that people who have never taken a simple economics course aren't allowed to call for changes to game economics.

Its okay for this thread because the OP wants to fix the Auction House, which FF14, does not have. We have a Market Board, similar to like a flea market or bazaar.

Uh, the OPs problem (way back in April lol) was people undercutting constantly. That's simple supply-and-demand and something you learn about in the most basic economic course.

Remember, its a Market Board, not an Auction House.

There isnt any "bidding" going on, just merchants selling wares and constantly undercutting each other to the point of losing money.

I have observed that the best time to sell is around Wednesday/Thursday. That's when most people are busy with work and/or school and don't have a lot of time to play, so they're more likely to consume than produce. The weekend is when most people find the time to farm for stuff and put it up on the market board, looking for a quick buck, making around Sunday night the best time to purchase.

Actually I really like the market the way it is. I do both strategies, leaving highly priced things up for long periods of time, and other times undercutting so I sell faster. I used to wish the system would change so that a person could pick some number of things out of a stack and leave the rest there, but to be honest that really encourages sellers to have even more strategy, i.e. bulk pricing versus small quantities versus individual items. The market in this game is really really fun and yes sometimes it's aggravating to get undercut but that's the nature of any market. I'm sure everyone would agree that more freedom is better than more restrictions, fees, taxes, etc.

Aren't you glad when you go to the gas pump that the gas companies undercut each other?

The Market system is working as intended.

The current system has inflation in check, a blind bid system inflation would go out of control.
Also if everything you put on the markets keeps getting undercut it means you are putting it on for too much.

I am a semi crafter. I never loss gil when crafting..
Buying raw items on markets craft them and I normally can turn 1-3k into 15-20k. I don't see any losing of money in this plan. And if I post 40 items on the markets normally within a day 30+ items have sold.
