Vanya was 5 - 10 million at release.
Arachne gear is 5 - 10 million at 2.4 release.
people charging 100 - 200k for an i55 NIN wep JUST because its required for NIN Relics.

I hate everyone who plies the MBs for this reason.
people dont realize this no... they DONT realize the mats cost or other cost (good example is anything that uses coke) and what REALLY happening is you are not getting undercut, it is the MARKET setting the price, kinda like a reverse auction. ( i know the silly undercutting thing happens ) but it is not always this.

I have been trying to sell a HQ vanya hat of healing that my retainer brought back for about a month now... and so has 6-8 others. we started around 250k i think (cant even remember now lol) and i think were down to 80k now. YES we have been undercutting each other this WHOLLLE time but its not brought on by greed but supply and demand. No ones gonna buy whats basically a glam item at that price we started out at so they will lower in price (big and little jumps) until people do think it is worth it. so, on the outside it just looks like undercutting but really its called supply and demand... the basics.

Its nothing to do with supply and demand. Its all about greed. No one sets a price because they think its 'reasonable', they set it because they hope some rich guy will dump the cash for it because he can.

In the case of the new 110 stuff, i seriously doubt the cost of those mats to be 10 MILLION GIL. You know, the price of a friggen HOUSE.
Greed is the biggest factor, supply/demand is a barely remembered whisper in the backs of peoples minds.

Didn't read up to whatever prompted this, so don't really know what it's about, and don't care because it really doesn't matter WHAT was sold. Probably retainer fantasia, or something. Regardless, if someone paid for the product, it was not priced too high.

That is literally all there is to it. Anyone who says otherwise is just whining. If it's so easy, spend your OWN two venture tokens and put your product up for the same amount. If it sells, you, too, have sold for the correct price.

But it's not actually that easy, now is it? You spent your two venture tokens, and you got a fish. A lousy stinking fish. You spent two more, and you got another fish. You spend the next week, spamming ventures every day, and grinding FATEs to afford the ventures, and all you get every time is a fish. Sometimes a clam. You are so sick of seafood!

Meanwhile, a few folks out there are getting lucky. They're getting items they actually want from the Retainer ventures. Since there's only a few such people, we're mere days into release, and demand for the items is high, we have high demand, low supply. This isn't a "whisper in the backs of peoples minds", it is the reality of the situation: Only a few items are available, and a lot of people want them. Smart sellers are going to sell to the people who can pay the most.

And let's not forget, that the folks who consistently get the best stuff from retainers have INVESTED in their retainers. Their DoM/DoW retainers are decked out in high ilvl gear that they've painstakenly farmed from Syrcus Tower or spent Soldiery on. Their DoL retainers are fully melded with Gathering materia, the most expensive of the DoL materia. They put in the work to improve their odds, and have every right to try to earn some of that back by pricing as high as they are able to earn.
