    Where are people getting the idea that 1.0 had better textures? I'm pretty sure the textures from 1.0 we're brought over to 2.0. Take a look at this video of 1.0, a cutscene featuring many of the existing characters you find in 2.0. Notice that they appear like they do in 2.0.



    Does that look like high-res textures to you?

    There were places in 1.0 where textures did appear crisp even up close, but the game did not seem to care for flat areas, which always appeared low-res and ugly.



    The rocks look crisp but the ground is flat and ugly.

    I think 1.0 did have some better lighting effects. HDR and bloom effects were done nicely.

    The intro cinematic (which is nearly identical to the one in 2.0) I think looks quite a bit better. The fight looks considerably worse IMO. It also demonstrates some of the weather effects.

    I don't remember the weather effects being all the better in 1.0. Perhaps they we're more "organic" and more realistic. But I'm not sure that's a good thing. Whenever there was a thunderstorm in The Black Shroud, your visibility went to naught, with everything looking very dark, like a real rain storm a big forest might. The shroud was annoying enough when you could see where you we're going. The weather made it ten times worse!

    ...completely unnoticeable indeed and not an eyesore at all. Idk where Yoshi got that idea from, sadly. :/

    That said, it's way beyond clear that if 1.0 had anything better, graphics sure was one such thing. But #PS3limitations in general.

    You can make really nice textures if you only have to texture few models and C&P it a few dozen times to make a "world".

    BTW, why are you faceplanting into an uninteresting rock wall in the first place?

    The models from version one did look incredibly ugly. The LIGHTING omg, it's almost as bad as a lens flare over the top of it too.

    Mining nodes/area there. Levelling up MNR, there are quite a lot of such spaces people need to "faceplant into".

    players do want real sandstorms. 1.0 sandstorms were awesome! I was just talking about this with my Girlfriend yesterday.You shouldn't go around saything "Players like to see things not being obstructed by ugly brown dust" this statement is quite ignorant.

    I miss the 1.x weather effects too. Also the nights were much darker. If I lived in Eorzea now I'd go insane because it's never dark I'd never be able to sleep!

    I'd love to see darker nights and characters using handheld or holstered lanterns to light the way. Animations to pull up a hood (if your armor has one) in a rain/sandstorm. Small things to make the game more immersive than just "things are happening around me but don't affect me in any way".

    The fact that clouds now don't move drives me crazy.

    They just get stretched a bit and worst of all:

    Mid-day they just change the stretching direction like the wind just turned 180 degrees in one second.

    Compare ANY time lapse video of 1.0 and arr to see how bad this really is. Even XI managed proper skybox animations better!
