Samurais usually are tanks, they are just more damage focused than knight and have a lot a debuff attacks. The very nature of a samurai is tank like, they wear flashy armor to stand out and draw attention on the battlefield and were all about protecting their masters.

Also wasn't SAM supposed to be a tank in FF11 like how ninja was going to be dps until it was found that they could both do opposite jobs better? (or more so that parry tanks didn't work well.)

In FFXI SAM was an extremely good tank for endgame. Tachi Gekko and Shoha were used to hold hate on the hardest monsters. (They had huge attack bonuses)

SAM also had access to excellent PDT sets with the ability to change stances to pull hate or dodge/parry damage.

I'm sorry for laughing at you, but " I don't like big sword tanking". Real life samurai uses katanas. Katana = 2 handed sword. While keeping that in mind, I can see no other weapon choise for samurais, so I have no ideawhat you imagined samurais to use. Unless in FFXI (Which I've never played) they used some other weapon of choise.

People need to remember that a healer's job isn't to heal HP
but rather to prevent HP from reaching 0

FFXI Samurai were best with Great Katana. But good with Spears and Bows also.

Chalk me up as another person that definitely wants SAM to be a real tank this time around. SAM as a DPS never made much sense, just like NIN tanking said above.

The size of it aren't meant for taking damage.
