Heavy armor is never optimal for female characters because of many reasons. Those reasons are such that heavy armor on a female body is oftentimes too heavy for them, there is a need for airflow, they have more curves so you need to accommodate.

I'm fine with whatever but if all they add is bland non-gender looks for gear I'll be disappointed.

Men need airflow just as much as women do, I'm sure.
And even so, I'm not sure having a gaping hole to the soft underbelly is very practical. I'm fine with dimorphism of certain gear, but there's a point where it just becomes silly.

just to play devil's advocate here and ask a question.

Besides the Dragoon AF and the robe from ST, are there any armor other armor sets that change noticeably for male and female?

Because I can only think of the two and people talk as if every set is a bikini when put on a female character.

Completely agree with this. Especially for a tank class, we don't need exposure of our sexy parts!

I agree! Obviously it would need a bit more chest details, but no cleavage please. Just make it badass :3

P.S.: It'll look awesome on lalas.

Real female armor would not look significantly different on males or females.. Like the popular boob curves, if you would like to live - you would not ever have that on your armor. Life > comfortability, fashion

Of course this is a Fantasy game so some people's little voice are much quieter than others. Personally I see the Dragoon belly hole as embarrassing, at least with some of the other sexy time armors they're 'sexy' for both genders. Dragoon's just looks like the females wanted the easy way out "I don't want to live like the men, goodbye cruel world!!" xD.

There are not a lot, and I suspect it's mostly because of memory budget concerns more than anything whenever they add new armor sets. Males and females sharing the same Noct model was terrible for example. No reason for the males to have a skirt and no reason for the female armor to have 6-pack abs unless they were trying to save on their memory budget by just sharing and scaling the same model.

    Difference in armour by Job:
Paladin- Tabard slightly shorter on females
Warrior- Butt cape removed to emphasize the skirt for females
Monk-Armour around the neck moved slightly
Dragoon- infamous belly opening, and less infamous collarbone holes for females
Bard- Females ditch the white shirt under the grey but keep the puffy white sleeves...for implementation of their BoMD (Boobs of Mass Distraction)
    White Mage-nothing noticeable
Black Mage- Jacket slightly shorter on Females

With the exception of Dragoon SE hasn't done anything drastic to any Jobs AF.
Not to say they couldn't pull another dragoon, but the odds based on all previous classes says that it is very unlikely. I would guess that the female Dark knight will have a shorter butt cape and perhaps a slightly lengthened skirt. and since the armour seems more form fittings it may include some sort of cup for the boobs but still fully armoured.

I never even noticed the difference in the WAR AF, aside from the slightly different shape of the breastplate. I just assumed it lacked anything in the back to accommodate my tail.
