Seriously, at this point, you're either trolling or you're refusing to take the blinders off. I realize you don't like the summoner class, that's fine. Lots of people don't like various classes in many games. The problem, however, is that you are refusing to understand there is NO POINT to reworking the class in the manner you want them to. Not a single one. The class is well represented at the end game, it does good damage, and people want them in raids. Some of your ideas have merit, like improving Ifrit-ego so it's damage and utility is comparable to Garuda-igim especially since we are getting additional egis. But a complete revamp where SE remakes us in the image of FFXI's summoner is incredibly, and I mean INCREDIBLY unlikely. WoW is a great example of what happens. Skills are tweaked, systems are reengineered, but the core of the class stays the same, because that is what the game is designed and balanced around. You need to learn to compromise. They have little reason to bring in FFXI's summoners, you need to focus your feedback on improving the DoTs + pet caster, because that's what the class is in this game.

My word, have you ever played ANY of the console games? Only Rydia can claim the mantle of SMN/BLM that people wanted in FFXI. All other summoners have been utility. The summons have the ability to do some damage, some buffs, some debuts, some healing (I'm thinking Asura from FFIV). They were never the overpowered black mages you're describing. Yuna had one damage spell, Holy. Outside of that, she was a white mage. You have got to be trolling at this point. The Summoner should have a hyur highlander scaled Egis that resembles the primals. The Egis should have mega nuke aoe bursts with an expanded array of abilities that include hard mode primal moves. The Summoner should have dark elemental abilities for sustained secondary damage since classic Summoners were Black Mages with a summon that rained down death.

You don't know much about the business models for MMOs, do you?Honestly it's a subscription game, if we have to use resources as an argument I'm going to really be concerned. Cost shouldn't mean a thing, that's what the sub is for, and to my knowledge of interviews yoshida said they plan to reinvent the wheel and innovate POST launch! Essentially anything can happen, but I'm not going to bother saying I'm right when it doesn't change anything.
The game could easily support the idea of tons of summoner concepts, they've already stated that if enough people want it, they could add in open pvp, which lots of people believed would go against the lore. Things change, lore is about the history and the world, not about the limits of what's possible.

I don't care what they do as long as it's one of two things. Either rework the SUMMONER job to be what their name implies..
Or
Change the name of the job.
It's misleading to call them summoner and then the only thing they do relating to their class is having a wind based pet that looks like a small bird that does meager damage.
Like I said though, I don't care which but as it is now seems wrong.
Akiza, according to comment #741, wants to play a Black Mage-Summoner hybrid with much larger, more detailed egis, with flashier skills. In other posts they have basically asked for Summoner to be overpowered, and reflective of single player, turn based verisons. They don't care that other people are involved and how they might be impacted. They don't care if balance is beaten and left bleeding on the floor, so long as they're made to feel like a special snowflake with their uber Summoner. Well, No the game cannot support that...The game could easily support the idea of tons of summoner concepts, they've already stated that if enough people want it, they could add in open pvp, which lots of people believed would go against the lore. I personally don't support those types of ideas... at least not yet.Akiza, according to comment #741, wants to play a Black Mage-Summoner hybrid with much larger, more detailed egis, with flashier skills. Maybe when lvl cap is 100![]()
My point being the sky's the limit.... pun intended.

First, no, I don't think the game is scraping to get by. It's doing quite well, in fact. Second, I'm not trying to put you down (though being on the forum for any MMO requires thick skin). It's a genuine question. Despite this being a subscription game, MMOs, in general do not generate a huge amount of profits. Most of your subscription fees go towards paying the bills. Even as the population increases, money tends to go towards infrastructure costs. There's room for some creativity, but the team does have roadmap and goals. There's more jobs to add, more dungeons to create, etc, etc, in addition to the ongoing bug fixes and balancing. Your example of adding open world PvP is a lot easier than you may think, since thanks to the Frontlines and Wolves' Den, the elements for that are already in place. However, Akiza's desire to reforge the summoner class as an overpowered blm that summons EX primals as pets does not currently have a foundation for it, and would require a significant amount of work.
