I see no reason to change the SMN Job. The only reason people want so-called "changes", is to suite their personal tastes of having a FF11 style Summoner in FF14.Current Tally:
Yes- 40
No- 20
Before your first reply this thread at the top of it I would really like you to simply type on its own line:
"Yes" if you are not happy with the current gameplay of the Summoner class and would like to see it reworked. or...
"No" if you think that the summoner class is a good representation of it's title and would not like it's core gameplay style changed.
*PLEASE VOTE BEFORE YOU READ EVERYONE ELSES POSTS
Just updated. More votes are starting to get a more definitive result.
see below for rules.
The most common gripe that a small minority of players playing the SMN Job, is that they want fully sized summons.
In any case, my opinion is that there should be no change to the way that SMN's currently work/ play under our current circumstances ingame.Code:Problems with larger pets:- -More data! -Would most likely be visually obstrusive given the limitations on far you can zoom the camera out. -May take away the visual appeal of the to-be-implented FC summons.

Just think, if you will, what reworking the class would mean. At the very minimum, new game assets and rebalancing. It\\'s much easier (and cost effective) to do that work prelaunch than post. The team has to keep the game running in addition to building new content. Considering the class is well represented, what possible argument is there for reworking it?You know, I play tons of games when they\\'re still in alpha/beta, a lot of them are better than fully fledged-out, polished games.
You know why?
Because I find those games FUN.
The game doesn\\'t succeed just because it works, hypothetically I mean. I don\\'t want to argue, but you people are speaking absolutes when there\\'s no point in it, and I don\\'t want to stick around for the I-TOLD-YOU-SOs from ANYONE.
I just want to support the game, and in my opinion that involves change in some areas, but regardless I\\'m sure we all mean well if we\\'re spending time to discuss it.
Except they weren't the same size. All the Avatars were scaled down, noticeably so with Odin/Alexander. Not to mention most of their abilities are arguably garbage now with the exception of select damaging abilities. Whatever utility they had pre-abyssea is now gone. Their appearance is pure misrepresentation in XI: looks awesome, weak as hell. Why you would want continue this trope in XIV is beyond me.The Avatar Pet in Final Fantasy XI was the same size and appearance as the Avatar we fought except the lore said we summon a portion of the Avatars power and it is a projection of the True Avatar. The Egis are a portion of the Primals power except they look like a Roaster with horns, a chicken nugget and a deformed parrot.
That's what expansions are for to rework classes like Summoner that have an identity crisis. Right now the Summoner is a DoT bot with a dinky Pet and lacks Flavor like the Black Mage. The Summoner job got butchered instead of a Pet Job with secondary sustained damage we got a DoT caster with floating candy for pets.Just think, if you will, what reworking the class would mean. In your words please explain to me what a true Summoner is. I have faith that you'll give me the completely wrong answer. That's what expansions are for to rework classes like Summoner that have an identity crisis. What if the game can't support your idea of what a Summoner should be, what happens then? That's what expansions are for to rework classes like Summoner that have an identity crisis. Oh, and expansions are about new content. Changes to older content happen most often response to new content. I'll give you an example. In 2.4 for Paladin the eminty of Flash is increased, and increased eminty is added to Circle of Scorn. This is so lower geared Paladins can keep aggro in spite of the higher ilvl.
The Summoner should have a hyur highlander scaled Egis that resembles the primals. The Egis should have mega nuke aoe bursts with an expanded array of abilities that include hard mode primal moves. The Summoner should have dark elemental abilities for sustained secondary damage since classic Summoners were Black Mages with a summon that rained down death.

While a complete rework is unlikely to happen, i think most of summoners expects a few tweaks, this is what i personally would like to see changed :
- Giving more interactions with the pet through new mecanisms, similar to already existing ones i.e. : The celerity buff we get when a pet crits.
They should implement some "combos" which requires the pet to be out and allowing us to see it as more than a extended/additionnal DoT
- Aesthetical changes : Arcanists / Summoners, can according to the lore, change the way magic takes form somehow depending on their calculations, schemes and drawings, so why not giving us a pet customisation system ?
Give us a way to summon carbuncle if we want to, Allow us to shape the portion of whatever primal power's we obtain the way we want ? It doesn't need to be much bigger than what we currently have, but at least more detailed, less "embryonic". I think a "Vanity Slot" system for pets wouldn't hurt the Lore.
This is the only thing i'd like to see changed, even though i miss the FFXI summoner sometimes, i still enjoy the class in this FF, i just think it needs more emphasis upon the relationship between the Summoner and the summon.
(Forgive my mistakes if there's any ^^ i'm just French)
