    I've survived solely from dungeon gear so it doesn't bother me much at all. I still have trouble seeing the point of crafting in the game besides getting minimal stat boosts if you're spear heading raids then ya cool but otherwise it doesn't really matter.

    vanity is the preety much the point of crafting besides the stat boost

    Originally on this game, crafting was pretty much an exclusive circle of gil circulation. The gil distribution was from crafters trying to level by paying crafters that finished leveling. Then those leveling crafters would make most of their income from other crafters. Crafting by itself served little purpose by itself, helping only the smaller populous that didn't run group content. With things like furniture, glamour, and progressive gear for raiders to meld for temporary needs, it's become a lot more useful to have on-hand. The old school days of relying on crafters for endgame needs is long gone, but crafting does still serve the universal goal that all crafters have in any game... to see your funds go up.
