Most likely this. The only reason the Aetheryte network exists is because it is maintained and protected. Once we start venturing into areas less populated, unexplored, or conquered by beasts/Garlemald, our access to teleportation will be severely limited. Flying will become the most efficient form of travel.
I assume flying will be restricted only to new areas, and not pre-existing ones. I wonder if new open-world areas will transition seamlessly, allowing us to fly across them as one larger whole -- or if they will remain separate, and still make us transition between maps at specific points?
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Golden Chocobo in FF IX can fly.
There better be a pig mount.
I just hope the city skies in the new areas aren't clogged up with hundreds of people afking on their flying mounts like in WoW. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Yes~!
I'm not sure how or why SE would spend the money to do it, but -if- they made a world map like they did in FFXI and a few other 3d FF - I would love to ride my airship/mount on it like a classic FF game (/only/ able to depart/arrive from major locations like Aetherytes and maybe hamlets). To offset the gil sync from teleports they could make a maintenance fee (that is optional, for those who don't care to use the feature), if you seldom travel you'd be better off teleporting, but if you travel frequently with distances the cost/time would greatly lean towards using your airship/mount. Depending on the detail (load on system) you might even be able to have it pop up like a "Skyrim" map (facing three loading screens wouldn't be that cool, specially for ps3 users). Also may use a world map as a way to add unique locations that may not make sense to be connected by the conventional zoning system (floating Fortress not found in Ishgard sky?).
They said way back when they were working on a world map but it wouldn't be ready for 2.0, curious if they scrapped it or not. Scenic mode where you just hang out above an area, Fishing with your feet off the deck over an ocean or deep ravine (cloud fishing). Would probably instance all this so it doesn't look bad (too much 'world map' clutter).
Unlikely though xD.
