So chickens can fly!
No seriously though, in which final fantasy has a chocobo ever done more than glide over a small distance?
I thought it's also been stated in many games that chocobos do not have the capability of flight.
I mean... dem wings....

Black Chocobo's, in a couple of games, had the ability to fly. FF IV and V being standout examples.
In FF9, a Gold Chocobo was equivalent to an airship when it came to flying around the world map.

Didn't FF6 have a flying Chocobo? Anyway, as a former WoW player.... I don't think flying mounts are a good idea, depending on how they are implemented. IMO they ruined WoW because literally all content could be skipped and just flown to. Blizz had to put heavy restrictions until you hit max level and could buy it ("winter flying" was it called in Wrath?) so people didn't just fly to quest completion markers.
Now if this is just a specific "sky zone" that they can be used, sure I don't have too much a problem. They may have said it already but I missed the announcement of flying mounts.

Well from what I gather, the majority of this new content will be exclusive to Level 50+ characters, so I doubt the whole "flying over" content thing will be much of an issue. Especially since there aren't really any areas that would be broken if they were flown over, other than graphically.Didn't FF6 have a flying Chocobo? Anyway, as a former WoW player.... we pretty much do that with aetherytes already. this is more of the less tedious scenic route...Well from what I gather, the majority of this new content will be exclusive to Level 50+ characters, so I doubt the whole "flying over" content thing will be much of an issue. unless the garleans have been patrolling the skies this entire time.

...which is doubtful since Garlean airships aren't exactly filling the sky over Eorzea.
But the only concern I have with this kind of system would be if certain areas are not graphically "finished" in ways that flying mounts like singular airships and black chocobos would be able to see. Like, say... an area like Coerthas Central Highlands which might not have all of the mountains completely finished and instead have gaping holes on the other end or something. But I'm sure, for a company that has been making video games for a good long time that are solid and have far fewer glitches and bugs than their competition *coughBioWarecough* *coughcoughBethesdacough*, this shouldn't be as much of an issue.

People are doing that already though. That's the problem when the world is small and the monsters in that small world pose zero threat whatsoever. That goes for low level and high level characters and areas. People literally just sprint through the mobs and ignore them. Or just teleport to your nearest home or aetheryte.Didn't FF6 have a flying Chocobo? Anyway, as a former WoW player....
