To be fair, I would buy a Tanaka with cash if I could make him go back and finish disc 2 of Xenogears.

^--- This. Stupid FF7, causing them to divert resources away from Xenogears and release the game unfinishedNot that FF7 wasn't a good game, but Xenogears was a masterpiece.
On topic, please no, thanks. I avoided 1.0 like the plague because it was horrible. I have no interest in playing it, never have, never will. 2.x is good fun.

It was FF8 that stole all Xenogears' budget.
Yep, we got a 10+ hour cutscene of slideshow narration just so we could have "whatever" ad infinitum.
Oh, was it? My memory is terrible, and that was a few years ago. If it was FF8, bah! FF8 was terrible and didn't deserve the budget it stole. Unless, of course, the Xenobudget was spent entirely on the Triple Triad game, the only good part of FF8. Then that's more okay.

VII wasn't finished, either. To be fair, it was finished, but not by Square proper. About halfway they shipped it off to their US branch for completion. You can tell this best in the cutscene quality and in Tifa especially.^--- This. Oh look a other i want 1.0 back bla bla bla wait till 3.0 is out jeez
To be fair, they didn't have Yoshi back then for QA purposes aka "No! Recompose!"
Tanaka was a scapegoat for 1.0's failures because SE pushed him to release an incomplete project. I enjoyed Yoshi ' s changes to 1.0 > 1.23 and was really hoping that they continues patching and fixing it. Engine limitations was the most serious issue with it though. Limiting total characters on screen to near 40 was a bit of a problem.
What I did love though was how the community treated each other then. Very reminiscent of XI. Now everyone treats each other so terribly in Duty Finder and without a static, makes content even harder to access.
Best let it rest and move on.
When I played XI ppl were a-holes. Not sure where this rosy view of XI community comes from. I played right after Rise of Zilart got released and had no such experience. 1.0 was honestly more of the same. Online communities have been bad since Runescape.
I'm definitely one of the people that had a "good" community to work with. PUG groups were generally easy to get along with on Ifrit. The JP only comments weren't too abundant between individual players too. Heck, I'd say at least a quarter of the parties I joined during the first year or so of XI NA release was with JP players. During endgame, drama came up every so often, but the players themselves weren't difficult to work with usually... at first. Then the typical rush/SR mentality sat in and people were beginning to frequent the A-hole attitude a lot more often than before. The times were changing afterall.
