Can we have Tanaka back now?

Hmm... Tanaka. I never did play 1.0, I was holding out for the PS3 Beta till Legacy happened, but I did do one thing that a curiously large number of people didn't do. I kept up with the game. Very few who played 1.0 actually enjoyed playing it. If it wasn't complaints about Surplus it was complaints about system requirements, or repeated landscapes, or player culling, or the gathering system, or many other things. Heck, when I was playing we had the chance to save 1.23 from the Void if we could maintain a population during December of the 2012. Few if any logged on. I think it's safe to say that if Tanaka were brought back that we'd see alot of these old system creep back in, which would not be a good thing.

Few logged in because progress wouldn't be saved I've read. But I don't think I can side with that reason. If you love something as much as many here claim then they should have logged in regardless to show just how special it is/was.

So now threads like this surface, threads that even pose the question of would you go back to 1.xx ? To which a lot of people said yes. So did those who care fail themselves? I kinda feel like they did.

Hiromichi Tanaka is one of best producer videogames' world had, ever. He was also the producer of my favourite MMORPG ever so far that I played for 11 years, Final Fantasy XI.
Tanaka jus had his view about MMO and he didn't care about the new generation who want everything and quickly and this killed his 1.0. However, like I already said lot of time, the care, music and design 1.0 had were ways better than ARR.
But ARR is a new generation MMORPG and we need to deal with that.

I would love to see Tanaka involved in FFXIV again. I think it's really unfair that he was forced to release his unfinished game and people graded it as if it was a finished product and bashed him into oblivion about how bad it was. Would you do the same with a Chef and the meals he prepares? No.

You know, again, the game may have been unfinished, but the systems noone liked weren't unfinished. They were Tanaka's idea of what people wanted, even in the face of said same people clearly bemoaning their very existence. And when asked to change or remove said systems he refused, stating that people will grow to love them. I admire people that stick to heir guns, but there's times where you should be the leaf instead of the tree.

Why the sudden love for it now? It was a horrific error and Yoshi-P is the only reason that the FFXIV brand isn't currently lying in a smoldering ruin filled with the tears of the Tanaka's Ego and SE's coffers.

More care than FFXIV:ARR?

You can't POSSIBLY be serious saying that Tanaka and his team had more care than anything Yoshi and his team have done for ARR.

You do understand that prior to Yoshi P taking over Tanaka's position in December of 2010 that there had been absolutely NO content updates.
NOTHING was added to the game, I am willing to bet you over 1 million dollars that Tanaka and his team had absolutely no intention of caring for their game.
Why? Because they did NOTHING. They never talked about what they were goign to fix; they simply ran away with their tails between their legs.

Music? That is arguable because both Soken and Uematsu created great tracks and you can vouch for both. So I'll leave it at that.

Design? This is where your bias really shines...

UI that was hosted on their servers in Japan that constantly were stricken with lag and latency issues.
There are no hotkeys to target the nearest available enemy
You have to click mulitple buttons to simply open your inventory there is no dedicated inventory button


No vendors were labeled and you had to aimlessly run (and I use run very loosely because you move like a slug) to find a shop that MIGHT have your classes gear.

Combat that was horribly slow and terrible! There was absolutely nothing to combat that kept it fresh and exciting.

No quests other then the main story line.

The only quests in the game are levequests and you can only have 8 every 36 HOURS (Take that in...8 quests every 36 hours)

There was no content in the game and the design was horrifically flawed.

Oh but you'll argue you could grind out with your friends and have group play like you did in FFXI? Too bad the fatigue system is there and slows down the exp gain you get to a literal amount of 0

So no the design was terrible the care was non existent and the music was fantastic.

Don't bring Tanaka back.

Pretty sure you had to have been paying for a sub when service "stopped" in september in order to even be able to log in after that. So people like me who missed out on the final days couldn't log in anyway.

Also I don't think any of us knew they were throwing 1.23 combat out with the bathwater at that point.

Quite, this just illustrates how loved 1.# was. I let my subscription go into auto-cancellation, but many jumped ship as soon as they qualified for Legacy.
