Keep past content out of Cash Shop

I support this too, and putting that stuff in the cash shop still allows people to get it.

In addition, that frees up the devs to create more NEW designs, rather than rehash the same things over and over.

This also creates incentive for people to stay subscribed.

Wins all around.

There's no rehashing when those past items were already in the game and were being offered for gil before, besides all the main seasonal gear that's new for that specific event has always been mostly unique (aside from the recolored male CUL body for Valentiones, different Yukata patterns, or the tweaked caster stuff in the current event, but even those are unique enough)

I never had the opportunity to get the lightning event items, and was pretty down about that. Hopefully the cash shop will sell it, I think my Lala would look swag in the bohemian outfit.

But newer stuff? Meh, I like the current in-game models enough to not bother with dropping dimes on any for-money vanity. But to each their own, I certainly don't care if someone wants to wear a pumpkin on their head.

Just had a thought. Did ffxi have a cash shop for past event items? I don't remember it ever having one but who knows maybe ffxiv will set a trend and they might get one too.

FFXI never had a cash shop. Or, it doesn't have one yet.

Depending on which event it was past event items in XI were typically available from an in-game vendor, or for free from an npc/box, or through the previous event which would be available to do alongside the new event.

Thanks so much for your response. I definitely hear you're opinion. Thanks for sharing it. I can definitely see a positive on this idea, but I just can't accept how free items (that costed gil) are now being sold in a very expensive manner 5$ ea per character. Just think if your account gets hacked or deleted, think of all the money to restore a character's special extras. That's expensive! ,_,

Aw thank you so much, that's very kind of you. I understand not everyone will agree with my point of view. I have very strong feelings about this issue; however, they're my feelings. I really enjoy (even if I might sound snippy) hearing other people's views. We're a community here. We love this game and we play it together. Right or wrong, in agreement or disagreement, we should try to stay constructive together ^^ /

Those of us who played from the start paid for that content through our continued subscriptions, as well as for every piece of event gear for every event after.

And why is this suddenly a problem now?

No one threaten to quit when items were open to everyone in XI, 'game that cannot be mentioned', or even on XIV and so forth. Yet they are getting backlash on it in the opposite way, why? Because they were already part of the subscription to begin with and now being ripped out to make money on those who missed out. Whether your new or old with a alt, you gotta fork it up. Why should I as an existing customer have to pay $30 for things I got before for a handful of gil because I wanted to try another character, or another server. If they wanted to take the items out permanently, while still being a low jab to new people, it would hold the integrity of that item being 'special' for those who want that snowflake status. This though is just a cash grab.

As for the 'we paid with our subcriptions all this time' defense. If your gonna get that literal, you paid for one month for the time the event was open, and that was it. With that example, someone could just sub for every All Saints Wake every year and pay a fraction of what you do, except still have the items. Not to mention anyone would wants to get them now (if they were still in-game), has to pay that one month this time too.

You can't participate in the minigames that were created, watch the cutscenes, interact with the original NPCs that were made for the event, you only get a piece of gear if you're late. That's the content you paid for and got to experience, while those who didn't never will.
