I'm for "you miss the event, you miss the gear (and the achievement title)"
I support this too, and putting that stuff in the cash shop still allows people to get it.

In addition, that frees up the devs to create more NEW designs, rather than rehash the same things over and over.

This also creates incentive for people to stay subscribed.

    Wins all around.

Uh.. I don't think rehashing the same things over and over takes a whole lot of development... that's the very reason it's being done.

As far as I can google, they do not have a cash shop. Just a thing for a security token which gave you extra inventory space as a bonus.

Honestly, I see nothing wrong with a cash shop. Extra Minions/Mounts that are exclusive to someone willing to throw a little extra money SE's way? What's the difference between that and the exclusive codes that come with Soundtracks/Artbooks/Fan Fest? Nothing. You're still paying extra money for an exclusive in game item and $5 is rather cheap compared to the normal $50 you'd spend on an artbook/soundtrack. Unless you'd rather that item to come at that $50 price tag with something you're going to look at sporadically.

As for event items. Think of it this way; if you miss the event you miss the exclusive items that come with it. Sure $3 is a big price to pay for something that you could have gotten for free. But I really think SE was being generous with the past repeated events that they did where they offered the previous exclusive it in the repeated year. Most MMOs that do events and have exclusive items follow the "You snooze, you lose" policy and honestly it should be that way.

But it was available for people originally. I don't understand why people are saying this is a positive when it was available in game to begin with for free ,_,

I don't think it's a valid idea. I think the cash shop should focus primarily on old content, less so than current. I think that will alleviate some fears regarding future purchases.

    Heya Eggnook24,

Thanks so much for your response. I definitely hear you're opinion. Thanks for sharing it. I can definitely see a positive on this idea, but I just can't accept how free items (that costed gil) are now being sold in a very expensive manner 5$ ea per character. Just think if your account gets hacked or deleted, think of all the money to restore a character's special extras. That's expensive! ,_,

Well.... for this point in particular, you'd actually be better off. At least for a cash shop they have a clear record of your purchase, so it's possible to trace it and replace it. The items you earned from hundreds/thousands hours of gameplay? You have to start over, and that time investment is probably worth a lot more. (Of course, the way of the world is there are people with lots of time and no money, and people with lots of money and no time...)

I'm not saying that this justifies having the cash shop by any means... but this particular argument actually works the other way.

Heya polyphonica, thanks for that point!

I definitely don't agree with this lol. I'm only referencing the extra items you can get from past events. Those items don't take time to get. It literally took the time to run to the NPC, click the item, and put it into your inventory. For some people, their accounts are never restored. For those people, they would have to pay an enormous amount of money. Even for the people that did have their accounts restored, all they would have to do is wait for the event to get their items back if there was any issue.

They were doing it before the cash shop too. Every year the seasonal event gear has been different... that's why you could buy the one from past years with gil from the vendor. They're literally doing what they've always done but now it requires extra cash. Even when they brought back the Dragon Quest event for the anniversary they added in a new item for everyone and that one wasn't even a year old.
