Let me open with this: Square Enix is a public company. Their whole financial records are online for anyone who has the internet and 5 minutes of times. Go see how well their past business model was for them then come talk about greed.
The business model since 2.0 has been a big success without a cash shop. If you don't believe me then go read the financial records which I know you know are publicly available.
