but it had more players and every server was literally full. Almost everyone was put into a queue for logging in. Figaro, on release day, had around 3k players at my time of login. This isn't counting how many were still in queue, or waiting on the Standard edition. Also, to use your argument against you, FFXi sucks more now than it did 3 years ago. =)

I don't care how many subs XI has. It has enough to get updated and stay online - that is all that matters. It certainly isn't in such dire condition the devs are afraid to charge for it.

What I care about is whether the game is fun. The game is more fun to me now than it ever was before. I don't care if it has more or less subs.
