So here is how it goes for those who quit:
Person A: "You still play FFXIV?"
Person B: "No i quit that mess"
Person A: "Why?"
Person B: "They have an optional cash shop that sells in game minions"
Person A: ".....ok"

I am all for supporting them...by keeping my subscription.
If FFXIV is that successful, they can do it without the cash shop.
As other players have mentioned, those who like to RP, love cosmetic gear, or vanity, they are going to feel the impact the most.
Now, with regards to SWTOR, that's a F2P game with the money transactions, this is a subscription. I know that's quite obvious but again, as said elsewhere, there's not much approval for "double dipping".
And next week they'll announce Lv60 for $60.
But remember folks, its not pay-to-win. It always starts vanity and completely stays that way every time right?
Yes, because after hemorrhaging money after your 5 years report, the best thing to do is cut viable sources of income just to make a few people feel better. I'm sure the Board of Directors would be totally pleased with such a decision![]()
When they start falling off the bandwagon then I'll stop supporting them. Why stop supporting them before they've even gone down that route? Right now it's all speculation and conjecture. I'm not going to assume about their future plans because we're not there yet. I am not going to stop supporting a game I still enjoy playing because they MIGHT go pay to win.
Anything I can do to support the game! As long as its vanity only I am cool with it, just don't cut back on the ingame stuff as a result!
Heh please show us a game that introduced a cash shop more than 1 year ago that hasn't gone P2W?
I've never seen one. Every MMO that has every introduced a cash shop says it's cosmetic only and every single one eventually introduces P2W stuff. I challenge you to prove me wrong.
Hi All,
I'm torn on the subject myself. Like a lot of you, all of those items (except the Art Book, real life Plushies, any toys etc.) technically should be included as Rare Items / Rewards for playing the game in various battles / quests, etc.
But then I think about the state of Console Games as a whole:
* Look at Capcom's STREET FIGHTER series: They've been selling TONS of bonus Costumes as Add On Packs for a while.
But back in the day "Secret Costumes" would've been a Secret Cheat Code / Reward for clearing a game (ala, SNES / Genesis / Saturn / PS1 era). But nowadays people are used to it.
* Games like Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, all the top Racing Games, etc., they all sell "More Cars! More Tracks! More Missions!" etc.
It feels like games as a whole are going this way.
I felt just as annoyed when I first started encountering DLC Packs on PS3, PS4, X360, Xbox One:
It's like, "I just spent $60 on your game, and you make me buy a DLC Costume Pack to get Costumes? That used to come free with games...
As long as Square keeps their promise that it's NEVER going to be "Pay to Win" (Game Altering) stuff, that's the most important part.
Ideally, they make ALL of the Cash Shop Items available to be EARNED IN-GAME still (like the rare Opo-Opo Minion from Brayflox Longstop (Hard), or Bluebird from Peisteskin Treasure Map), *and* for those that would rather buy it, they can go to the Cash Shop? Sure.
