I've always done T9 with two tanks. Having a back-up tank in the last phase has saved us more than once.

But I agree. If people can't push properly with 4 dps then the dps need to step-up their game, not make their tank level a dps class to carry them along.

Simple FFXIV is a game you level more then one job. Then have one of your tank level up a DPS and gear them out. I myself play SMN as my main but for turn 8 i just go BLM due to it being a boring standing around fight.

This is my line of thinking as well.

More like "multiple bosses in one raid instead of single corridor leading to boss".

It'd be a different story is turns 6-9 were continuous. That would force the raid comp to adjust and prepare with the whole raid in mind rather than switching jobs between turns. That way fights that require multiple tanks and fights that require one main tank can exist without forcing raid members to do things they don't want to do.

To give a practical example, if you have a raid with 6 bosses and 3 of the fights required multiple tanks, your raid would have to make their group comp with that in mind instead of making people switch between bosses. Which means even the encounters that don't require multiple tanks would have the "extra" tanks doing pseudo DPS.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

Same with us, and OT uses DPS accessories and does some respectable damage.

That works, too. Though there does need to be more than just one difficult raid every six months (especially since it has a weekly lockout. If a group is good and they finish all Turns on the day lockout is reset... yeah).

My group duo-tanks it every week. A PLD OT in shield oath can put out quite a lot of damage if you've got a WAR MT.

I think he was talking about pugs. Of course if you have your own group you're not going to tell your friend to bugger off.

If you're going to demand that SE makes double tank a requirement for every fight, then please request more interesting tank mechanics along with it.
Every fight being some combination of adds or tank swapping debuffs is incredibly stale.

    Duo tanking T8 leads to:

    - lol Dread
    - lol Mines
    - lol Rocket
    - lol Brainjack

T8 is much easier and safer with two tanks than one. T9 same, two tanks makes golems and heavensfall a breeze. Given your dds should do their job properly.
