Even if he does, from a business standpoint, that's a pretty awful fix. They should have some mechanism in place (submit a special request of some form) to handle this.

Exactly this. I realize that I may have to go through hoops once. Hell, Blizzard wants me to show ID (literally, I have to send them ID proving I'm me and I moved), but then it's back to business as usual.

You just don't like the game enough to justify buying the time cards and thats perfectly fine. Everyone is entitled to do what they want with their money. If you don't like a game, you just don't continue paying for it. I do it all the time.

I speculate that the customer service gave you the time card option as well but you refused it. Otherwise, there would be no reason for the customer service rep to offer you such an extreme option because they were unable to resolve your autopayment. Logically there would be no way for them to offer you such an extreme method unless you refused the time cards at some time in your conversation with customer service.

Not to mention, you say you love the game and the company but at the same time, you bash them in the same paragraph.

I dunno... your post is very fishy...

But SE is notoriously bad with website and billing management, so I suppose it's nothing new.
You may want to reassess your position.

I expected at least one person to defend SE's practice, it is almost the norm these days. So Xystic, let's get this over and done with now. I like FFXI and FFXIV. I think XII and XIII are weaker entries, and hope that FFXIV brings the series back to form. Being critical is not bashing. It's having an opinion. Your "speculation" is not even needed. If you read in the original posts, I said directly the options offered, time cards and having someone else in Canada pay for me. And those two were offered in the same breath, not after I complained as to why this was impossible.

I don't want to buy time cards as an option because, point blank, SE has removed payment options before. If they decide to do it again with time cards, then what is my option? I cannot buy Crysta because it uses credit cards the same way autopayments do. Even if they still offered PayPal as an option to buy Crysta (an option Ultimate Pay offered prior to its change of business plan), there is also the issue that I use an authenticator. Unless policy has changed, if I order another, it is shipped to the address on file. Likewise, downloading the app may not work either, as apps are country-specific and carried in country-specific stores. So I would likely need the Canadian version of the app for my Canadian account, which I cannot access via the American Play store or American iTunes app store.

That's why I don't see a reason to use the work around. It doesn't fix the root issues here. It patches them over, and I just have to hope SE maintains that status quo. If they don't, I'm investing more time in a game I will be cut off from arbitrarily because of the company's poor policy towards moving to a new country.

    Edit:

And to those who understand, thank you! It's frustrating, and I wish they would just allow the change. And Amberion, I called the call center, and eventually spoke to a supervisor who told be that they were just unable to do anything. Even getting that far took repeated calls as the supervisor refused to even speak with me on it. They just stonewalled me, so it shows they have no interest in me offering them money to play their game. It's a little crazy when you think about how much effort they put into welcome back campaigns to turn around and do this.

It has nothing to do with defending SE's practice. It has to do with the fact that your arguments are very fishy. Its hard to agree and sympathize for you based on what you've stated.

Which means I was correct. They were both offered but because you refused time cards and they couldn't set up your auto payment, they offered you the only option left available to you, which was a bit extreme.

They were nice enough to suggest an extreme option to help you continue your subscription. Your "and I kid you not" statement which is similar to "you wont believe it but" makes it sound like why in the world would someone offer you an option like that. Well of course they would, they did everything they could in their current power to help you because you completely barred off the other option.

Most MMOs to date have never removed time cards. They are the last available option to people specifically in your situation and believe it or not a lot of people use time cards, especially those who are under 18 and don't run around with debit and credit cards to set up auto payments. The only time, time cards will probably ever disappear is if every man, woman and child runs EBT and can setup autopayments. By that time, they will have dealt with your situation because physical currency will no longer exist.

I believe it would only take one phone call to understand that they can't fix your situation. The repeated phone calls was probably unnecessary. They wouldn't have offered you that extreme option if they weren't interested in your money.

Otherwise, because this awkward situation is ending your time here. Good luck to you and your adventures, wherever they may be.

I do feel like you're white knighting SE here, you are deviating from the main issue, which is the inability to change country, all you reply is a sort of deal with it, but dealing with it will not fix the issue.

I understand your upset with the way things are but keep in mind that you are the one that refuses to buy time cards because you stated that their is possibility of them disappearing in the future, which is highly unlikely. Customer service offered every option that was available to them, to you, and could do no more based on the limitations you provided them and the limitations they had on themselves.

Your arguments had inconsistencies, pointing in the direction of information manipulation. I speculated you were angry with SE so you manipulated the situation to look like they wronged you and came to the forums to cause a riot because you specifically posted it in the general discussions forum, which is the wrong place.

Your above statement helps to support how you treat people when your upset. Whether customer support or anyone, I don't think many people could tolerate such comments.

Due to the fact that you are upset, I believe our discussion ends here.

Once again, due to the circumstances, resulting in you leaving FF14 ARR, good luck to you on your MMO adventures wherever they maybe.

It's mind blowing that we're not allowed to change our country when not everyone lives in the USA and I play ff14

I guess, those are legal reasons why it is not so easy to change the region/country. There many sanctioned countries. And it would be easy to circumvent the sanctions if you would simply change the region/country etc. Besides it, there also differences in terms of copyright etc.

    Cheers

I haven't heard of region-related payment incidents on this scale affecting other MMOs or live service games, which makes me think that this is either a Japan- or Square-specific issue. As an anecdote I have an EU WoW account but have never had payment problems despite living in Canada and using a Canadian card. Same goes for ESO and GW2 as well.

On the other hand, paying for my NA FFXI account with a Canadian card was troublesome (though a different can of worms) and I'm now trying to figure out how to pay for FFXIV since the payment update.
