I said it multiple times before but I wish they would just rework the elemental materia instead of a resistance materia to an enhancement materia like in FFVII. Now, I am not trying to go all FFVII Fanboy here but I didn't implement the materia system, I just think they should make use of what they have.

In FFVII you could add the element to the armour or arm by combining it with an "Add Element" materia. However, it wouldn't be good to add that to the game and rather they should just add the element regardless. So, with this, if you add Fire Enhancement materia to a weapon, it would give it fire damage, if you add it to armour or accessories, it would act as an elemental resistance. With this though, it would be nice to actually have a glowing effect for once, or not so much glowing but an elemental effect on the weapon like a fire sword, spear, shield etc. or even something with Lightining bolts.

The greater the materia enhancement, the greater the visual elemental effect. This would be particularly nice if it could then be used as a glamour. Although certain weapons, like the crafted primal weapons might have be unaffected visually by the materia.

it's more the whole materia system is a relic from the V1, they only did change the spirit bonding speed and the fact we don't loose the item anymore when we fail. exept this, it's still the same system.

the whole materia system need to be changed for make it more interesting and more important work with the actual ilevel system. elemental materia are not the only one that have close to no utility, main stats one too can be almost junk.
i remember yoshida saying they plan to change the system, but i still wait to see what they will do with.

Crap materia like that is good for spirit bonding and desynthesizing.

With either system it balances it out with some amount of RNG to make certain items rarer than others. Hey, I'm not saying it's a good thing, but that's how I see it.
The issue is there's a difference between not always getting something good, and consistently getting something useless and terrible.
Dropping the elementals still leave other not "good" but relatively useful materia like primary stat materia

Are you sure? It sounds like the OP is talking about artificially creating scarcity by having crappy materias that come from converting items. Which is what I was talking about...

You can't say for certain that everyone is getting bad items consistently, but the mere fact that they do get bad items creates the rarity we're talking about.

I was thinking the same thing, like you could have gear sets for specific dungeons or primals. As it stands, all elemental materia does for me is speed up the spiritbond process.
