We've had new players get to 50, run the dungeons and get to see every cutscene and participate in the fighting also. Know what their secret was? Being in a FC and asking for help, and recieving it. Not relying on 7 strangers in DF to cater to them.
If you create a party for castrum that says "Watch all the cutscenes and experience the dungeon how it was meant to be seen!", maybe do some shouts in mor dohna, and I wouldn't be too surprised if you got a few takers. I'd be down for that if I had some free time.
If you don't, well I guess that tells you how many people want to watch the cutscenes or wait for someone who does.
Seriously, don't blame the other players for not wanting to wait around and twiddle their thumbs for something like 20-30 minutes so that some total stranger can get the "full experience" which they will probably have forgotten entirely in a week. Blame SE for creating this situation by putting lengthy, non interactive cutscenes in the middle of dungeons like that.
Just my two cents here on PF. I'm on Jenova. We have like 8k players total, and only like 400 on at a time. a pf for cutscene watching story mode, would take not hours, not days, but months to fill if ever. lower population servers rely on df, because our pf's aren't always reliable.
that said, I just skipped the cutscenes my first time through. I watched a "lets play" on ffxiv before I even started, so I already know the storyline.
"watch the cutscenes elsewhere" should be part of "read guides before you enter new dungeons". I never go into a dungeon unless I have read and watched at least 2 sites or videos detailing the entire dungeon from start to finish, so I don't screw up and wipe the party. I expect others to use similar preparations, so as to not be a toxic party member.
Doesn't really tell you how many people want to watch them when shouting in mor dhona only works for your realm and only for those on your realm at any given time.If you create a party for castrum that says "Watch all the cutscenes and experience the dungeon how it was meant to be seen!", maybe do some shouts in mor dohna, and I wouldn't be too surprised if you got a few takers. I understand that you want to be helpful, but wont this ruin the experience for you? I have never watched a video of a dungeon, always joined fresh and winged it. I died a few times, but the mechanics in this game are not that hard and after dying once or twice you understand what you need to do. I hope alot more players stop watching videos online and just press enter duty and experience the dungeon for what it is.Just my two cents here on PF. I'm on Jenova. I think the veterans should wait and let the newcomer watch the video, majority of the veterans watched and enjoyed the cutscenes when the game first launched, so why deny this same experience to another player? Afcourse this is the fault of Square Enix, but we the players should be more patient + we get 100 more Myth for helping them complete this dungeon.
I understand we all want to finish the dungeon as fast as possible, but the 200 myth is nothing compared to what you can farm at the new HM dungeons.
Perhaps part of this is the fact that I refuse to run a dps character (mostly because of the feeling of worthlessness at being truly expendable). being a tank or a healer, if you don't know what is going on, it hurts the party a lot more, and I have seen plenty of people abandon a duty on the first wipe. they see a bad player in the important positions, and are too impatient to deal with it.I understand that you want to be helpful, but wont this ruin the experience for you? I'm also not really one for casual storyline experiences. If I want to take my time in a storyline, ill buy "final fantasy XIV: the trilogy" books, and read them. I play a game, not a visual novel. lets get the gear, get the quest completion, and get to the next part of the storyline. TcoB is coming soon.
Also, yes I understand this isn't a normal playstyle, and that many people want to watch these cutscenes. I wont stop them, and if things come to a standstill I can always tab over to another screen and work on crafting rotations in the meantime.
Let's break down the rewards from the Main Scenario dungeons.
- You get 110 tomes from the duty roulette. This reward is there because fresh level 50s (which are a tiny part of the playerbase) need those dungeons for the story
- You get 100 tomes from the new-player-bonus. This reward is also a result of fresh level 50s that need those dungeons for the story
- You get 20 tomes from the dungeon itself.
As you can see; you get 210 tomes because of the new players. How can anyone in good concience claim to have earned that reward, when they completely ignore the desires of the newcommers? You are biting off the hand that feeds you, but that hand has no power to bite back.
You got it wrong bro, we feed you.
I wish we could take it off roulette and give you back your 1 hour long queues.
Hoarders gonna Horde.

Because as far as the system is concerned both rewards are there for 1) reducing the queue and 2) clearing the dungeon. It doesn't care about anything else. That's not an excuse to force people to do speed runs or otherwise verbally assault them for watching the cutscenes, but the reward doesn't mean vets are obligated to do anything for the new player besides help them clear the dungeon. Saying the rewards are reason enough to play nice and let new players experience the magic™ has always been a flimsy argument against the "majority rules" nature of the duty finder.
It would be nice if first-timers got to watch their cutscenes and participate in the fights without having to choose, but if the majority of the group wants to do otherwise that's tough. Just like I'll repeat once more, if the majority decides they want to watch or wait for cutscenes, anyone else who disagrees doesn't have much choice in the matter unless they think they could low-man bosses faster than it would take people to watch.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
