Aww that's cute.To be honest, relic weapons in ffxiv right now sucks hard and involve zero shows of your player's skill, it's all about endless grinds on atmas, gils and dungeons spam... infact, even the best reward availlable isn't even BIS when a next coil/raid strike around the corner.
This isn't powerful legendary weapons, this is a just a side-quest goal you can work on in a casual way to get a decent weapon.
FFXIV have yet to introduce legendary weapons that give real advantages like in past final fantasys games, something like job additional effects, hidden effects and whatever that make a legendary weapon forever-bis no matter the patch/update/expansion.
And THEN SE said, let the bodies hit the floor, and it was so, and many upon the land cried foul as their relic progress was no more.
See the problem with your logic is, there are weathered weapons for the casual players. Relics haven't been the casual weapon of choice for months. And we'll continue getting those casual weapon upgrades along side relics from here on out. Most of my casual friends have said no thanks to the relic grind. Relics are going to go down that road called difficult, and they will gain those advantages you speak of. Best prepare yourselves or risk being blindsided, and make no mistake you will be blindsided and SE is not going to budge to the rage on the forums come that day after maint patch when people start to realize, oh damn.
Especially if they dare sway from their current method, and start implementing items used for the quests that can be exchanged between players, i.e. ancient currency. I would hope that's off the table period, even though to an extent it has already started with materia, but SE knows how to restrict the flow of things. If they deem relics should be rare, their way of doing it is involving wealth. It won't happen tomorrow. Hell it won't even happen within the next couple YEARS.
But it will.

So much this. At first we had to defeat bosses, the Chimera, Titan and Hydra, etc. They were easy but at least it wasn't reused content. In 1.0 the relics actually felt like...a relic. To be honest, relic weapons in ffxiv right now sucks hard and involve zero shows of your player's skill, it's all about endless grinds on atmas, gils and dungeons spam... infact, even the best reward availlable isn't even BIS when a next coil/raid strike around the corner.

At the very first, those weapons weren't meant to be for "casual*" players and only the ones who downed t7 had an opportunity to get the tomestone... Then they changed everything with a regular "catch-up-update" with hunt and syrcus-tower loot boost.See the problem with your logic is, there are weathered weapons for the casual players. So from my little point of view, all of those weapons (weathered/unweathered/relic) re in the same basket (for the moment) since they can be acquired by a lone person without the need of your own community behind.
On a side note, you can be a casual but still giving ton of times into grind and money sink for a goal, the only difference from another casual is how many times you re able to invest.
"Casual*" shouldn't be the default noob-timeless-mentally-challenged meaning since there is also a lot of "Casual" end game raiders, only casualy-playing for raid times.
*I still believe into players categories like bads, poors, decents, goods, very goods and it can have nothing linked with how many hours you play a week.
Man, I for one really wish to see this happening... Like really.

There simply isn't enough customisation in game yet to introduce better upgrades, and I don't think there ever will be in the attempt to be "safe". This game is so simple that there is little room for upgrades other than main and secondary stats, which helps vertical progression because all they need to do is increase the numbers, but for something like horizontal progression where they need to add more variety there isn't much they can do that they haven't already.
XIV is a great game but there is no depth yet, and I think it will be at least a few years before we see anything like this added.

People are doggin relics now but just wait until they ARE the best in the game and aaaa aaaaaaaaaaalll the players that neglected it have to start from zenith/atma. I hope this is the case at least >.>
yoshi dont want u to do math in order to see wich gear is better and because "new players" balbalabala , MAIN STAT + VIT + (Crit , det , speed ) is what u will see .....
maybe in 3.0 they introduce new stats or "enhance : XXX" but i doubt it....
