    QoL: Change the /me Emote

    Hey folks!

This is a very, very minor Quality of Life thing for roleplayers.

When using emotes in any kind of chat apparatus, the prefix often wildly differs between /emote, /em, /me, /pose, etc.

In FFXIV, the designated prefixes are /emote and /em, but often times, many people are just so accustomed to using /me especially, that it can be a problem. Especially where there is an emote for /me where a player gestures to themselves.

Is there anyway that the /me emote could be synonymous with the /em emote and the current action for /me be moved to a /myself command?

    Thanks!

Yep, I came here from IRC where /me is used a lot so it took me a couple of years to break that habit XD I certainly don't envy the ARR kids learning it still.

IRC, Skype and many other games use /me for third person text, then ARR had to try to be different and make /me a random emote only keeping /em(ote), but hey, it's still not late for this small change.

    Hmm,
An emote where you point at yourself is not really a random emote for /me
It's also not really a ARR thing, the /me emote exist since 2010 ^^

/em is for customized emote text, like "/em point at all the people and laught"

Considering it's not used that way almost everywhere else... Random for me.

/em is how it was used in FFXI also so its not a FFXIV thing or a random thing since others in this thread pointed out other places where it is /em

Because everything XI does is perfect and this game should copy every little thing from XI. How about comparing the games where /me is used as our /em vs those were /me is something else?

This reminds me of that "casting lots" discussion.

(before I get flamed, I'm not totally against suggestions from XI, but I loathe that attitude of "It was like that in XI, so it has to be that way here".)

every MMO I've played used /em for custom emotes and only ones that had /me were for emotes where character either point at themselves or jumped up with their hand in the air

That reminds me of that starter quest in Uldah... Did they ever change it?

There was this quest I believe it's for the paladin story line in Uldah. Where you need to use the /me emote to tell the NPCs to "face me!" to prevent them from harming other NPCs.... (basically you are taunting them)

It was a rather simple quest, but since it was one that introduced using emotes in the game, many people didn't quite get it yet.

It was quite amusing though, to sit around where those NPC appear for the quest and watch all the people trying to actually "talk" to them while they are trying to figure out the quest.

"Hey you, FACE ME! .... Face ME! .... why isn't this working?!?!?! Face me nao? This game is broken OMGOMGOMG"

LOL... I dont see people do it now. Though I'm very rarely in front of the adventurer's guild now in uldah.

But I agree OP, the /me command is a bit hard to figure out sometimes.
