New cards can handle temps in excess of 90 degrees Celsius without breaking a sweat. Even some of the 200 series Nvidia cards can safely run above 90.

At the bottom of this page you'll see the max operating temperature for the GTX 470, which is 105 degrees Celsius. http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...tx_470_us.html

I'll say it again.. a GTX 470 running at 80 degrees Celsius under full load will have no negative consequences. It's lifespan will not be shortened to any noticeable degree.
