Black Screen of Death

Ok, this bug has been here since alpha, and this bug will one day make me leave the game, and im not the only one. Once in a while, to pretty often the game will make the computer shut down all without reason, over and over. This can happen 40 minutes in the game 2 hours in the game or even after 3 minutes. We who have felt how annoying this bug can be really know what it means to lose every other leve you try to do, and I am kinda bored of loosing all leves because you still haven't fixed whats in my eyes; the currently most important bug in game.

Comment if you have felt this yourself or know how to fix it etc. please stay on topic.

Have you tried to play in windowed mode? I got crashes every time I alt-tabbed from a full screen, so I got the habit to play this game in windowed mode only. Also I got that black screen on game launch a few times with my old GTX260. Had no more such issues after I upgraded to GTX570 and updated to the last driver (266.58).
It is also possible that your power supply might not be able to provide the sufficient current for your graphics card. For example, my old GTX260 needed 30A current on 12V. My new GTX570 needs 42A. My power supply can provide up to 28A with 8-pin connectors and up to 18A with 6-pin connectors. Therefore, connecting 2 6-pin connectors to my old graphics card provided enough current (18+18=36) as well as connecting 1 8-pin connector and 1 6-pin connector (28+18=46) to my new card.
This game is really heavy, therefore such power issue, if power shortage is very little (like 1-2A) might just not make itself known with other games, because they don't force your graphics card to work on edge.

Always plays in window mode, ive never seen the crash happen in fullscreen actually. It is like the game gives the command
if (player wants to play very much == true) {
shut down computer
}
else {
let him play
}

alt+tab crashes for all players in fullscreen to, i talk about screen going dead.

its not the graphic card or a power issue, ive tried on many computers and have gotten it on almost all, only computer i havent seen it at yet is at a friends. I got 3 computers, so been some testing ^^

Fourth time it happened today now and i just lost a behest thanks to it .. earlier i thought the problem was gone as i hadnt had it in a while, but no .. its there, and ive lost about 50k sp today thanks to it :S

I can see where this would be interpreted as a bug, since a lot of people seem to experience it. But it's probably more of a Technical Support issue.

Anyways, we could use some more specifics to help diagnose this... "Black Screen of Death" isn't very descriptive.

Is your computer restarting? Is it giving you an actual error screen? Is it shutting down completely? You posted event log information that makes it sound like your PC is just going into sleep mode.. but that shouldn't be happening while you're playing a game.

It might also help to post your system specifications.

Maybe you could get more attention from the dev team if you pay attention to the forum's rules and use the template they have provided to report a bug (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...m-In-Game-Bugs) or post @ "Technical Support" section since this seems to be a technical problem and not a real bug.
On the other hand, I haven't experienced such issue.

I see display mode says 32 bit, its a 64 bit version of win7 though, does that have anything to say?

Well, for me it seems that your graphics card is almost incapable of running this heavy game, as it clearly was too heavy for my GTX260, which is actually significantly better than your cheap graphics card.
Also you can try disabling sleep mode in your system.
And overall, I think playing on a laptop isn't actually a good idea at all. Most of them are completely incapable of handling big heavy games such as this one.
Considering that you have a laptop, I would also suggest you check if it overheats when you have this issue next time. This is also a common issue with virtually all laptops.

I suggest you either do 1 of 2 things. If you good with laptops crack that baby open and apply some new thermal paste to that GPU, the black screen is caused by your video card overheating. Also ensure that you drop all your XIV settings to the lowest possible option and see how the game responds, Turn off AO, AA, Depth of field etc. The 2nd option is for you to buy a fan to put underneath the laptop to get it some airflow.

Display mode saying 32 bit just means it is displaying 32 bit graphics for a desktop, you may have a 64 bit OS but I guarantee you XIV is not taking full advantage of it because it was designed for 32 bit OS, so the game itself will also run in x86 mode.
