Personally when I run Prae or Caustrum, I usually run it as a Tank (dat bonus gil yo.) If we have new people I always wait on bosses, and help them catch up if they get lost, but on trash mobs its another story. There is no reason to wait for them to watch cutscenes while we clear the garbage mobs, especially in Caustrum. If this isn't acceptable to them, they also have the option of Party Finder.

How so? Everyone I've ran with gets to watch the cutscenes. Occasionally they get locked out of Nero, but that's pretty rare. And locking out of the Colossus is even rarer then that. They always get to do Gaius and Ultima because it puts them in the Arena after the CS is done.

People are going to rush though, you can't stop that. Force them to watch the CS or take it off the Roulette so it can't be farmed means 4hr queues for the newbies. How does that help them?

Compromise is the way to go. Newbies get to do the dungeon and get to watch the cutscenes, vets get to get their 200 Myth from a quick run. Why wouldn't both sides be ok with this? If one side is unwiling to compromise, then they are part of the problem and causing the hate and the arguments. Not the ones willing to compromise.

Like I said, I get 3-6 commendations for my actions. It means those newbies are liking it. And the vets too. Just try it.

    We compromise.

    Vets lets Newbies watch cutscenes.
Newbies let Vets play through the dungeon.

Everyone is happy as Vets get their quick run, newbies get to watch cutscenes. Both get an extra 100 mythology.

Its a win win situation. Everytime I've done this, everyone's been happy and I walk away with 3-6 commendations.
This is actually how it goes with most of the Main Scenario Roulettes I do. We go forward, the new people get to watch the cutscenes, and everybody is happy. Just be sure to also explain the important things about the bosses (such as Ultima phase 1's AoEs, and Ultima phase 2's pulsing AoE) so they know what to avoid. I've seen some new people be sadly oblivious to the AoE unless they're mentioned, that DPS/healer vision we sometimes get if we're too focused on our job.

That is no different from watching the cutscenes at the inn later. You're still missing out on the context. I'm starting to believe that the only way to let new players enjoy the story would be to either force them to make their own party, and remove the Main Scenario roulette, or to "encourage" the veterans to slow down a bit.

The compromise is that vets get paid a bonus to wait for noobs to watch cutscenes. It's really that simple.

Some people are saying it's a compromise to take the noob bonus but still treat noobs like trash by rushing ahead and not letting them participate.

That's not a compromise. That's selfish. Earn the bonus by waiting and helping the noobs have fun.

As for the argument that "noobs are lucky to be treated like trash by vets, because otherwise their queues would be 4 hours long" ... that's up to SE. If it becomes a problem, FFXIV can increase the noob bonus to get vets to queue. If the bonus isn't large enough for you to treat noobs well, then don't play MS roulette.

Happened the same on my first praetorium, with the exception people didn't complain. They just left me behind without even looking back once. I kept getting out of a cutscene and immediately be thrown into another that was flagged by them entering new rooms lol XD

I had to re-do the trial in order to actually partake battles, but I'm still thankful to those seven strangers who let me watch my videos

Now this I can agree with.

Simply increasing the bonus will only encourage more of the same. Speed runners gonna speed run, and making it even more worthwhile to do so isn't going to make them slow down.

One idea is to give the new players a pop-up at the end of the dungeon asking if they feel the non-new players were helpful. Or, y'know, word it however you want. If the new players say yes, the (random, not queued together as a party with the new players) vets get significant bonus Myth (or whatever). If not, they don't.

10 posts per page is only the default setting; it is bad, and you should feel bad if you haven't changed it.

This about the only compromise that makes sense. The 1st-timer doesn't need or care about the trash mobs all that much anyways. The group has something to do while the 1st-timers watch the cut scene. I'd rather people chat and be sociable, but trash mobs are an ok outlet. Which means don't skip the trash mobs like the way speed runners want to do, like sleeping them all and running straight to the teleporter or control panel.

This the best idea I've seen. Let the first-timers in non-pre-formed party vote to award the bonus. This make perfect sense.

Or turn it into a solo instance and tone down the trash mobs parts, in the end the lore always considers "you" (the player) as the single champion of eorzea.
