You buy the plot and don't buy the license to build the house. Now you can sell the plot license because you don't HAVE to build a house on it right away. The plots are sellable.
People are going in, buying multiple plots and then selling them for 10-11 mil because everything is now sold out.

I had no idea you could do this. If you've already built a house can you still sell the plot? You buy the plot and don't buy the license to build the house. Now you can sell the plot license because you don't HAVE to build a house on it right away. The plots are sellable.

Also, I never got a plot license. I bought the thing from the sign, and you never get anything tradeable so I'm not sure if I understand what the plot license is?
Also, this reddit thread seems to disagree: http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen..._plot_of_land/

You pay the person to relinquish the land, and then they let it go, goes up for sale and you buy it. If a house is on it, from what I understand No. But Plots, yes.I had no idea you could do this. If you've already built a house can you still sell the plot?

And I called it a plot license but basically yes, running up and clicking t he sign to buy it now puts the house under your name.. so basically you hold the license.

If they relinquish the the land though, people still have to pay the price to buy the land itself... So really, if I bought a plot for 3M, and wanted to gain anything all from it, the person buying would have to be willing to pay over double what the plot is worth just for me to actually gain any profit off of it.....You pay the person to relinquish the land, and then they let it go, goes up for sale and you buy it. Thats what people are doing... making people pay them to relinquish the property. They even had it up in party finder, that you could buy it from them and to message them if you were interested. If they relinquish the the land though, people still have to pay the price to buy the land itself... So say you but it for 3 mil. Then say 'Hey I will sell this for 10 mil' they pay you 10 mil, then you relinquish the plot and then they buy it for 3 mil. So int he end you would get 10 mil, and they would spend 13 mil, or whatever.

When patch 2.1 came out and the housing prices we're revealed, everyone made a big fuss that the prices we're so astronomical. Complaints that the cost of the medium and larger lots we're so enormous riddled these very discussion forums? Remember anyone? Now it's nine months later, a large number of Free Companies own these lots, and it seems to have worked out well for a large consortium of the community.
This is that people. It'll work out in the end.
I loved the post about the party finder being used to market real estate. I'm sure something we've all seen, well never.
