How exactly would they always be behind on gear? There is a gear cap every other major patch and catch up gimmicks for gearing as well.I disagree on that because releasing the job before the level cap will make it more attractive. If you release it with a level cap, you can either level NIN (if your goal is to main it) and slightly gimp yourself because it will take longer to reach the new cap, or continue with your current main so you can start gearing up sooner. People choosing to main NIN at the release of a level cap would always be behind everyone else on gear, making them even less attractive for endgame fights. Other MMOs certainly release new classes with new level caps, but more people would main a new job under the current level cap.
I was hoping we might be able to get a bit more information on the technical aspects of the new class/job. Nothing that would be spoilers, even just what main stat they will use and If we can use ROG from the chr creation screen.
Wait for TGS, we'll get 2.4 information I'm sure. Including Rogue and Ninja stuffs. Think it starts tomorrow if I recall correctly, so it's not a long wait considering they're several hours ahead of the U.S. and Europe.
Post on lodestone says saturday (PDT) is when he'll talk about 2.4.
Rogue should be class can start as, Thancred in my mind would be akin to style of rogue when fighting alongside Yuguri later in game shows his alternative way of fighting and as such the fighting style already exists in that part of the world.

I agree that it would be super confusing in the storyline if new players could start as Rogue, but keep in mind: each individual player really has his or her own storyline that exists parallel to everyone else's. In your story, you are THE Warrior of Light as well as a national hero. Technically, within each player's game, it's a somewhat self-contained story. Although I think there should be some unlock requirements, I wouldn't put it beyond SE's capabilities to make a slight change in the story/quests/etc. for a new player starting off as a rogue without doing anything to the story the rest of us have experienced up to now.
(I realize that parts of the game show you flying around the crystal with other players. But as far as I can remember, no NPC interactions acknowledge that other players are as special as you are, they're just other adventurers and friends you call to help in raids.)
