Having an opinion does not make you right or wrong, it simply means you have an opinion. Don't get irritated when people don't agree.
Maybe they should take some of the revenue from their 2.3 million players and invest in some server infrastructure instead of funneling all their money to developing mobile games.
it's amazing how the OP's main point has been overlooked...
The idea here isn't that they need to add more servers, it's that they can't simply add more servers because the way the game was coded/ the game's infrastructure does not support this.[*]Alternatively, the game can't feasibly/easily support larger, faster, and more complex servers.
...
Let that sink in for a second.

In my opinion, SE is basically telling us that they've reached their limit when it comes to multiplayer interactivity as it relates to their server capabilities.
The idea is that the game has reached (or is nearing) it's infrastructure limit, and in order to expand it further, a complete re-structuring/ re-coding of the entire/majority game would be required.
This is a much more crippling, worrisome issue that just lack of servers. It's a complete roadblock for future expansion.
Instead of yelling at SE to "Get Moar Servers!!!!", you should be yelling at them to be up front about the root of the problem and their plan to solve it. As the updates go on, I grow more and more convinced that the OP's hypothesis is fact, and grow more worried that there is a serious issue looming over the horizon for us Eorzeans.
I already lived through the incompetency that was 1.0, and I do not want to relive that.
"Any man can stand adversity. If you truly want to test a man's character, give him power." - President Abraham Lincoln.
Or they're saving their resources specifically for these things as opposed to houses. I don't know that, but neither do you. You can't say the lack of one thing means the exclusion of others by default. Hell, I would take one of those 3 things over a stupid house any day. There is way more that goes into making a decision about the best way to utilize your structure before implementation. Plus, server capacity wasn't the only reason.
And the first example exists already. Albeit, not the way you like it maybe, but it does exist.
For what it's worth to you guys, I would put my money on the possibility that Yoshida and his team WANT to do more, and SE won't allow him to. Blame the company big-wigs, not the developers.
Still pretty worried about that myself, personally.Originally Posted by Yoshi-P
Additionally, the congestion in North Shroud is quite rough, so we're currently looking into whether we should implement a system that has been adopted by other MMORPGs for making multiple instances of the same open-world area. The preparations have already been made and we've implemented this into the Chinese version of the game, so we do have some operative results. We'll be testing things up until the last minute to be sure that the concept of multiple open-world instances is clear for players who aren't used to this kind of system.
If you read Yoshis post from yesterday you'll find that they're doubling the housing capacity of each Ward and making infrastructure changes to allow for as much expansion as needed at 2.4 timing (ie. adding hardware as Yoshi said he would as that last resort).
Which is still the wrong answer. Any junior server admin could tell you that. The housing wards are a drain on resources for content that doesn't need to be persistent. Personal housing can be instanced on demand for the player, not the entire server. It still baffles me how XI managed to give everyone a functioning, usable mog house from the start but this game, over FIVE YEARS in development, somehow cannot.
Doubling the wards will still do nothing, legacy servers with 30k+ active players still will need to be on the second servers come on. Another 720 plots will do nothing.
There is no last resort, they have to add more equipment.
Thats what you do when you making a high profit, you expand and reinvest some of the money you get from customers. You dont get cheap cause they notice and then customers decline.
It would be great to show yoshi-p the comic on next meet and greet...I'm so disapointed about this... This comic is exactly how I feel T^T
Housing was what I waited the most, in other MMOs it's abordable but FFXIV... o.o That's too bad because I really love FFXIV universe and that's why I don't want to leave T^T
PS : appologies if there is spelling errors, I'm french and not fluent in english >.< I just wanted to cry with everyone T_T
