Most expensive house is 80 million.
I'd like to point out that this would have been 800 million in 1.0 gil. The max you could carry was 999 million.
Puts it in perspective.

I like living in the slums, its where the nice people hang out, not a bunch of Elitist snobs....I wasn't aware I had to be a resident of Elysium in order to afford a house. The 99% living in the slums of the polluted Earth don't even get a chance I guess.
Personal Housing was one of the things they hyped during the relaunch of FFXIV and instead we got this. People thought Neill Blomkamp's second film was a disappointment, this is somehow even worse. I don't know what Yoshi and the devs were thinking but if they actually thought this was acceptable they have another thought coming now. The Japanese players are rioting even worse than we are and that's saying a lot.
This needs to be completely rethought and addressed pretty quickly, right now patch 2.38 is the worst patch this game has seen so far. I've been a loyal subscriber for a year now and I know I'm not the only unhappy person.
supplying people brings demand down shockingly.
The way housing is implemented makes it an us vs them and an us vs us issue as there's an extremely limited number of houses to compete over in addition to their egregious pricing creating classes of haves and have-nots. and every house bought is a house someone else won't be getting, that's competitive whether you want to pretend it isn't or not..
I see the hyper inflated market is still causing SE concern lol.
It's a problem of thier own design and not having a proper market hampers it even more. Everything is far too easy to attain so after a few weeks most popular items fall into worthlessness due to oversupply.
Well yeah, but that's why you cycle your supply.
The actual financial aspect isn't the main cause of the upset. Yes, Yoshi originally intended the prices to be less than the FC cost, but that's really more of a clarity and honesty issue. The real problem is the severe lack of available spaces to use and the competition between new FCs and the average player in terms of available space.
I'm guessing they can't add many new areas due to the nature of the wards, but that's really something that should have been considered and attended well ahead of time. This whole thing feels like a hasty desperate move, and the end result is honestly way below the expectations for a company of this caliber.
There is not enough items in existence for people to do this, and if there were we would have huge shortages on some occasions and a completely bloated list of items to deal with overall. Your solution works for a finite amount of people.
You could maybe argue that this housing is merchants rewards for being merchants but that is probably not going to make anyone happy.

Looks like we need some section 14 housing
Eh? EH?!
Must be hard living in your Ward 1 Large FC house in your pricey glamoured Bikini gazing down on the 99%.
Why not just give that big mansion away so the 99% can live the life.
If you think it is expensive now, wait until it is all bought up and people start selling lots at 200%+ of what they paid.
Ya it is expect to happen.
Still SE did mention that they will be adding new Housing servers over time. Sadly I don't think that will be enough considering the limited amount of space for players to obtain housing and the thousands of players competing for that very small amount of space.
It is like trying to register for College classes, hundreds people trying to obtain 1 class but not enough teachers for that 1 class to teach even 10% of the students that want that class.
