    People should really forget about classic FF jobs being in FF14 yet still functioning as classic FF jobs. Look at BLM and SMN and others to answer your question. We have no elemental wheel and the elements are split between 2 jobs.

    The battle system is also different.

    Based on what we know x base class turning into BLU and learning 5 spells via quests is the most possible since that's how most jobs here have done it. We can also get more spells every expansion.

    Honestly, all they have to do during the "Armoury System revamp" that they hinted at is go back towards 1.14ish era where it was a list and you could just choose. I mean, look at the BLU spell list in FFXI:

    You can't and won't ever use all of them and obvious get chopped down to certain ones and to a set that's efficent for your traits, so if an old MMO such as XI could handle doing this kind of system, ARR should be able to work off of it.

    I have to question the references to black mages "not having the elemental wheel." They have fire, blizzard, and thunder, just like in every FF game ever. Aero started as white magic, Stone is basically only found in FFXI, and Water became a thing in what, FFIX and FFX? Stop thinking FFXI is the be-all end-all Final Fantasy, it's not.

    Plus, conjurer had the entire elemental wheel in 1.0, and that's where the lore is anyway. I want my light/dark thaumaturge back! (not really)

    It's because during the whole 1.0 > ARR transition they "simplified" too much. The Elemental Wheel refers to not just having x and y elements but how they behaved between players and enemies, which, as you said:

    just like in every FF game ever.
    Affinities always existed, but they got rid of it for ARR for a more "simpler play."

    Stop thinking FFXI is the be-all end-all Final Fantasy, it's not.
    It's the only other FF MMO unless you count the sold off Fantasy Earth Zero. With the same dev team minus a few leads.

    Are you being selectively ignorant in this statement?

    Their only form of nuke damage is fire. Period. Ice is a mechanic by which they regain mana and do minimal damage. Thunder is a dot.


    So technically yes but you and everyone else knows that BLM is a horrible shadow of any other FF game and is a entirely 1 dimensional fire mage.

    That armory system change they hinted went through a PR-wash translation, it will be a minor change to the armory system, not a real revamp.

    Blue Mage will not be any fun if you only have 6 or so spells to use. In my opinion AAR's battle system is far too limited to implement a job such as Blue Mage in any form.

    He did say it would be one but not in the sense that it'll be a total overhaul, compared to say 1.18 > 1.22 type of overhaul. If it's enough change that it doesn't keep them in the corner they got backed into, it'll be just enough to really let them stretch things out.
