There is one thing that pisses me off though is that everyone calls me just Zlat. I know its convenient and I don't really mind that much but when you put the time and effort into creating the perfect name for your character, when it gets shortened to basically just a sound effect... its a bit disappointing.

On the subject of how people shorten names, my main is my Miqo'te, Y'kayah Tia, and most people just call him by the shorter part, Tia. But by Sun-seeker name conventions "Tia" just indicates that he's a non-breeding male. And the "Y'" part indicates which tribe he's from. It's the middle part, "kayah", that's actually his personal name. Nobody has ever called me "kayah".

Not really. I just checked the Lodestone and no one else on any other server has my name, so it's one of a kind.

I relate to both of these. I made my name up playing D&D like 15 years ago, and have used it ever since. I've been on this game since the ARR release and I'm still the only one who has ever spelled the first name like this. The last name is pretty popular, obviously..

But yeah, my static in vchat just calls me Inda. (in-duh) But I think it's because everyone mispronounced my name when we first met. They were putting the emphasis in the letter a of my first name and pronouncing it (in-dah-key), when I have always pronounced it with letter a sounding more like an "uh" sound and emphasis on the second letter I (in-duh-ki). Not too big of a deal but it annoyed me enough to always correct my friends, so they just call me Inda now lol.

Every once in awhile they will purposely mispronounce it just to mess with me.

But I am very happy with my name.

My name is the character I created, and I typically use it in some fashion in any MMORPG that I play. So, no. I definitely don't regret it at all.

I also have two other character names I have created that I generally use for alts as well.

After looking around the forums I kind of wish I had chosen a lore-friendly name, but I still like my name after several months, so it all works out.

I made this character name under the absolute perverse nature that I wanted my character to look... while it was a male Miqo'te. Just visually mind you, I really don't care for the overly perverse attitude that would match it. Walking around with nothing but the bard hat/heels and some scandalous swimwear as a male miqo'te while holding purple sparklers made me a big attention *****. The name seems original enough that I still like it now too.

Well, if you're thinking of transferring servers anyway, then the workaround of forcing a name change by creating a name conflict on your destination server doesn't have the drawbacks for you that it does for those wanting to stay on their current server. Just before putting in for the server transfer, create an alt on the new server you plan to move to and name that alt Marcella Cat. After that, when you move your main character there, she can't have the same name, so you'll be prompted to change it.

I think to do it yourself might require having a standard subscription (the type that allows you to have multiple alts on the same server). If you have a basic subscription, then you might not be able to transfer to a server where you already have an alt. So if that's the case, just let us know where you want to transfer to and one of us could create that alt for you.

No regrets here. At all. I adopted my first name from someone I use to game with longggg ago on a MMO that's shut down now. My last name is from H.P. Lovecraft. I discovered him while attempting to brush up on my writing for forum RPing. Of course after reading one of his short stories I realized that emulating his style wasn't a good idea. lol.
