    Back to discrepancies of main and off hand. This already exists and is compensated for, PLD relic sword and shield where the upgrade cost is divided among the two. Also this could serve as the divide between RDM and COR, where RDMs path goes with sword and CORs path goes with gun.

    Cutlass falls into the rapier category and yes. Here is at one time the most popular and over powered one from FFXI that COR infact could use.

    Yeah but like I said Corsair is way too much the EXPECTED gun class and Yoshida said it is not what will be expected. Machinist is a lesser known gun class but doesnt fit the Musketeer. RDM fits the musketeer but the only range RDM ever used was a small handful of short bows in FFXI.

    Red Mage has always been one of my favourite classes in Final Fantasy games, but how are they going to work this into FFXIV? We know that Red Mage is a hybrid White/Black mage. We also know that lorewise Red Mage is a Jack of trades, Master of none type of character with some melee attacks. Unless they revamp the whole Red Mage skills, we will see a inferior job when compared to White Mage or Black Mage.

    I have not played FFXI, I do not know how they made the Red Mage work (maybe a FFXI player can explain this to me), but from a single player FF point of view, I do not see a reason why someone would take a Red Mage for either healing or dpsing, when they can have a Black or White mage in their group. Only way I can see this work is if they add a support role, then a Red Mage would be amazing for this role.

    Red mage in XI was meant to be debuff. Slow, blind, poison, dia etc...RDM also had spikes (Ice, Thunder...) for solo combat, and in parties could get in there for some DPS as well. RDM also had support abilities, Phalanx, Haste, Refresh, some heals, depending on sub: Stoneskin, blink, etc.

    RDM was the jack of all trades. Magic DPS was ok, /WHM could be a main heals, but for a while though RDM was maily a refresh/haste whore. I stopped playing XI when the cap was raised to, 85 I believe, so not sure where it went from there. But during the time when 75 was the cap, when played right, RDM was an amazing job to solo on. Could take on some pretty serious stuff with /nin.
