Even if the stats aren't negated, the extra bonus provided by using tier IV instead of some other stat (accuracy, skill speed, det, crit, or whatever isn't your two *primary* stats) is very, very minor. I wouldn't use any tier IV materia unless you are just rolling in gil.

Parry really isn't a good option, in my opinion. Considering how dangerous adds can be in many fights, stacking STR and CRIT/DET can mean having to deal with fewer mechanics and adds killing off people (including yourself).

At this point in the content cycle I agree with you. When Coil3 comes the parry will be worth while until players ilvls catch up again.

The other thought is in shield oath even 44crit 31 det is netting a player around 2dps. Not enough to matter. Sword oath would be a bigger pick up however.

I think that 2.4 will work the same as 2.2. Higher item level from new tomestone and highest item level from coil3.
So we'll probably manage to catch up before hitting a new tier of challenge.

There's always spirit-binding. It may not always net the materia you desire, but it really can help avoid costs (can sell off unwanted ones too). I collected most of my novus materia from spirit-binding along with my friend. Granted, it's not for everyone since there's a fair amount of patience (and luck) involved.

I went max Parry/Det, but I don't think I'd recommend it. I might wind up having to pick up and unweather a burtgang once new content hits (although I'm sure the weekly soldiery cap will eventually be lifted, so even if they don't make the UAT any easier to get it might not be that hard to do) if I need the accuracy from my weapon slot.

Accuracy/Parry is probably the best way to go. It gives you the most flexibility to swap out tank jewelry for DPS jewelry as your left hand ilvl gets to the point where more vit isn't necessary for current content, and will make it easier to upgrade other gear once new content hits.

Doesn't change the fact that people don't have to do 44/31 on their weapon. Most players, like the OP, probably don't have the gil to put 31 determination on their weapon. And they may be turned off by the novus due to being misled by people into thinking they NEED 44/31. There are many options.

To be fair, they also explicitly said they would and would not do many things. And then we got version 2.0 of the game. Nothing is set in stone.

It still represents potentially millions of gil you could have made by just selling the tier IV materia and buying Tier I/II of some other stat that's almost as good. Especially for a tank where secondary stats beyond hitting the accuracy cap aren't really powerful enough that having 11 more of one stat vs. another is going to make a real noticeable difference.

On what would you spent this millions of gils if you don't buy a "perfect" Novus ? It's not like there's this much expensive stuff to buy.

That's fine, like I said it's not for everyone. I myself don't really have a lot of other expenditures I'd have chosen over going for what I wanted.
