Is this the road they will continue to take with items?

I remember spending a decent amount of time on getting ilvl 80 gear back in january. Just recently decided to start playing again and noticed there is a full set of ilvl 90 gear easily obtainable through a couple of hours of hunting. WTF?

If there was one thing i heavily disliked with WoW was the gear reset every time they release an expansion, and now ffxiv is picking up on it too.

Personally i enjoy gearing my character with the endgame gear because it feels accomplished. Atleast in games like FFXI where it actually meant something.

I'd just like to know whether or not i should care anymore if i can just wait for the next patch and get previous seasons endgame gear in an hour. Too boring

Well that's been the trend for the past year, so I'd expect it to continue.

Welcome to a vertical progression MMO. Don't get attached to anything.

Unless you think it looks pretty. In which case, invest in prisms.

Without special attributes (chance to attack X more times) and without much stat variation (just make sure you have enough accuracy for X content, or all damage for Y) the only thing left unique to gear is looks. For that, I suppose glamour system has you covered.

I'd like to see mechanically unique qualities/more of them, but right now I don't think there is much to miss moving from gear to gear since the only thing you lose you can regain through glamour XD.

Just wait till expansion. It's gonna get worse. Experienced players will either trounce lvl 51-60 (if the new lvl cap is 60) mobs because they are over gearing the monsters by so much it's not even funny or they start handing out i110-130+ gear to new players as they level up through quests from 1 to 60 and you'll have new players reach lvl 60 and have i130 but barely know what they're doing.

There really isn't much of a gearing path in this game sadly. And I do agree with y'all on the iLv of the current gear. It's almost too easy when slicing through mobs now.

Yeah I kind of miss games where you would spend a while earning a really great piece of gear that remained relevant for a long time. Right now, you can get some pretty great gear quite easily, and the best gear in the game doesn't seem too huge of an upgrade over it so it's not a huge deal if you don't get it. It wouldn't matter anyway, as the next update will instantly render it obsolete. Someone seriously needs to think about stopping the ilvl increases and instead focus on other aspects of player/gear progression.

Vertical progression should have died when WoW showed that it falls apart later on. Horizontal progression is best progression.

Back in january, i90 was the best gear you could get. Of course there's better gear now and tougher events, so the old i90 gear (and i70) is far easier to obtain and the new base ilvl you generally want for current endgame.

I think yoshi said recently somewhere he'd like to go back to having more unique stats on gear, but then he also wants the game to be easy for new players that join in the expansion. We might see some different gearing progression, but then again, we might not.
