My friend wants to either get midnight blue or dalamud red (sp) if anyone can steer him in the right direction. he hasnt messed with the fruits yet so hes desert yellow or whatever. thanks for any advice!

I've seen you in multiple threads asking for help. Please realize that if you don't get a response it's not that no one wants to help you but unfortunately the individuals providing assistance can't personally help every single person. This goes the same for anyone asking for help.

That being said I'll give it a shot.

Starting Colour: Wine Red
62R 17G 14B

Desired Colour: Soot Black
37R 35G 30B

Try feeding the following combo:

x3 Plum
x1 Pear
x1 Berries

This should result in an RGB of around 37R 32G 29B (assuming +/-5 average integer and using the original RGB spreadsheet) and should push you into the darker colour range; not sure that it will get you spot on Soot Black so you might need additional tweaking afterwards.
