I think the only RNG here is if the fruit will proc the change in new feathers? If someone is just going buy someone else's # of fruit to get the color you wanted. It might not use the same # on your chocobo. Instead count the number of new feather change

^ This seems to be correct.

This message is not derived from a random chance when feeding your Chocobo, but from the moment when your Plumage's RGB values have successfully migrated from one Plumage colour range to another, which (unfortunately due to RNG) is something which we can't 100% know the exact values of.

Was at Kobold Brown, fed 1 Doman Plum, got the "beginning to grow new feathers" on first try. Got Ink Blue instead. Did Pineapples on Ink Blue, same result, got "growing new feathers" on first try, waited for 6 hours. Sent back to Kobold Brown. Something's not right here.

Proof of my results via chat log.

    Starting Color : Kobold Brown
    Chocobo Level: 10
    Stable Condition: Fair
    Feed Used: x1 Doman Plum
    New Feathers: 1/1 Plums
    Result: Ink Blue

[8:49 p.m.]Juju devours the Doman plum.
[8:49 p.m.]Juju's plumage will change in 6 hours.
[8:49 p.m.]Juju is beginning to grow new feathers!
    Result: Ink Blue

Your exact RGB values might not have been in the same range as the person above (there is a bit of RNG here). This could cause the issue that you're having with bouncing between Kobold/Ink Blue.

Then the questions begs an answer of, if people who learn how to get to Soot Black try to teach others the path to get there, how do you get everyone there without getting someone caught in a loop? Even though they're all reaching the same colors up until Soot Black? And then another question begs to be said, do we just keep bouncing back and forth until we get lucky via RNG or do we start over and make our way back there again somehow?

That's an exceptional question because it's doubtful that everyone is at the same inner RGB value. The closer you are in shades to a desired colour the more difficult it becomes to get that colour. The only suggestion to try to avoid a loop when you're close to your desired plumage colour is small controlled feeds of a single type of fruit. This way you're not mass adjusting multiple RGB levels.

If you hit Ink Blue again maybe try 2 pineapples and 1 valfruit to break the cycle; mileage may vary (don't hate me if I'm wrong).

    Soot Black help

Ravenguard I know you have been helping people out and I was wondering if you would do the same for me. I don't have a lot of monetary resources in game but I do have access to the FC's gardening lot and so I have 30 of each of the color feeds. I haven't even started on my chocobo so it is standard color atm. My desired color is Soot black so I was wondering what would you suggest I feed to get that color? I previous poster said he was able to get soot black from Loam brown (which I got from the google doc spreadsheet) and I was thinking of following his footsteps since he was the world first soot black I believe.

Yeah, I'm thinking it picks the color that is closest, on average, to the red, green, and blue values your chocobo is set to. Personally my color transitions went start -> slate grey -> Russet Brown -> Wine Red -> Dalamud Red -> Chestnut Brown -> Kobold Brown -> Soot Black.
