I think I will have animus done by that point. I don't think I'd be too interested in novus from what people are saying about the work involved at that point, so I might just skip out on the final upgrade.

Well I guess I wont be able to do the next upgrade since I will be stuck on trying to get novus due to materia being really expensive for a SMN, thanks SE.

No more Materia/Alex/Stone/Fate Hell. Dx
But Novus is the funnest Part. I need 11 more alexandrites to finishing mine and I can confidently say that it is the most lenient when it comes to making progress.
Also I don't think the next relic quest will involve desynths. None of the Zenith, Atma, Animus and Novus upgrades needed you to be a crafter, so I don't see why this one would be.

haven't started atma... refuse to start atma because it is a horrible system that should be burning at the stake...
Now this is a gray zone here. The base relic, which we notice you did not list, requires crafting the weapon to 'house' the relic. And Novus can be argued as to whether crafting is required. The majority of the materia people use is probably from crafted gear. A good chunk may come from aetherial items, quest rewards, maybe a few vendored equips. I'm pretty sure SE is going to make the next relic step require us to do something that they feel players aren't doing enough of. Whatever that may be. Desynth is a relatively new system and I could see SE trying to get more people involved in it. It's currently a system whose primary purpose is to remove gil from the economy via MB taxes, with rewards of vanity, and Supra-tools with (currently) negligible stat boosts.
For the people saying "they said coil would be the best", yes it WAS the best. It would make no sense at all if the next upgrade was equal ilvl to old stuff currently in the game. And besides, if it is better than t9 , then it's an upgrade for everyone. Sheesh, be happy? Wanting your old weapon to be better than others future gear? really? >8D
But anyways, I fear it will be ilvl 120 weap with new looks. Please look forward to animus-esque part 2, to gain actual stats....(in 408408 patches later ).Since I plan to go zenith-novus before this patch, hoping to replace liberator with novus, I hope and pray next upgrade doesn't involve more gil-sink.
And yh @ above: having a gsm = dirt cheap SB gear. Got a miner aswell? then almost free. Appart from the rng/time involved xc
Got 9 Atmas today, in between extreme primal queues. I'm thinking the drop is buffed. My 1st atma weap took 35 hours. Might just be rng, however xc

I think you misunderstand. When endgame weapons are "the best" like Yoshi said, it means they are. The point that relics become better than High Allagan, is the point when there will be Third Coil Weapons, ie 2.4. Not 2.38.For the people saying "they said coil would be the best", yes it WAS the best. It would make no sense at all if the next upgrade was equal ilvl to old stuff currently in the game. And besides, if it is better than t9 , then it's an upgrade for everyone. Sheesh, be happy? Wanting your old weapon to be better than others future gear? really? >8D
being able to start the new quest in 2.38 doesnt mean that its possible to finish it before 2.4
maybe you need 30 items, which are limited to 1 per day, close to alexandrites
even if its possible to get get the weapon pre 2.4, that might be a whole week for 0.0001% of the playerbase to have a better weapon then HA (and giving a shit about that is just childish and ridicolous)
