Sucks, but if you've played WOW, you'll realize it's the sad/cruel reality.
In fact, I'd be willing to bet that Warlocks feel MORE like Summoners, than the Summoner class we have. Which is basically a gimpy Warlock, with just the baseline of skillset of a WOW Warlock.
i have to be blind, because i cant find it.Greetings!

And if you've never played WoW, you'd think the people claiming as such as insane.

err, nope, don't hope it. when the 3.0 will come out, even if it's a paid expansion... all the patch after will be 3.x.they will have the generic change added for the people that haven't it. but don't hope them to simply split them team for do two different type of patch. in the mmorpg, when an expansion come out, they simply do like if everybody have it, and leave alone the previous content.I'm expecting 3.0 to be a paid expansion, so not everyone will get it, and thus the 2.x line of updates will continue for as long as universal additions are made (such as hard mode dungeons, housing items, glamour, etc.). So when Yoshi says the expansion is MUCH closer than anyone expects, I think it's going to be released sometime between 2.4 and 2.5. It also explains why they aren't worried about releasing ROG/NIN on its own with no other classes/jobs until 3.0. :3
at best i think the 2.5 will be the end of the 2.x line in term of story and will lead us to the 3.0. since the 2.4 will be the end of BC.
yeah it's true that make a class without attack and only relying on the pet, it's smart. by the way WoW did create nothing mmorpg before add pet class with dot. they had no choice actually with FF14, if you think about it, what sort of attack you will have wanted? he summon a monster for do 1 hit and disappear? or maybe direct damage spell like the blm... (both are the same in terms of mechanic, only the animation it's different)
they have give to the summoner dot for allows him to have time to give order to him pet. remember when you use a spell you can't order your pet. people love to complain simply for the pleasure to complain without think one minute.

FFXI came out May 16, 2002. Rise of the Zilart came out October 28, 2003. It took the team nearly a year and a half to get the expansion out. We have the FFXIV team at a year now and an expansion likely coming about a half a year from now. This is also coming from a group of people that was able to create a new MMO within 2 1/2 years or so. So color me impressed how well they are keeping up with things.Just an Fyi, XI's first expansion was out about now - Same team largely and definitely same company. It wasn't a tiny expansion either, when most people think of XI 'at launch' they think of Zilart era if they started in the west, which dramatically increased the size of XI's world.
Plus during ARR dev they said the first expansion should be out about a year after launch, so I don't think anyone thinks it's as easy as 'making a hamburger', it's more like the alternating update focus is what delayed it because they delayed the Crystal Tower in the first place.
On them saying it would be a year after, "Anything is subject to change."
