    Just a small correction: the time differences you posted are correct during standard time. During daylight savings time (now), however, Japan is 13 hours ahead of New York and 16 hours ahead of L.A.

    Seven years living in Japan and getting woken up at all hours of the night by phone calls from my family in the U.S. made me sensitive to this. Drove me crazy.
