what? you think black mages are invisible in the dark? that's jobbist!!
I always thought it rather odd that a job named "Black Mage" doesn't (traditionally) wear any black. FFXIV's (undyed) AF gear actually seems to suit the job better than its more iconic look does.

I am glad all classes have the ability to dye their AF. Granted the process is kind of a time waster for what should essentially be a simple thing. Gathering the base materials needed to craft the actual materials needed to craft the Augmentation items isn't terribly hard in reality. It does take a bit of looking up stuff online though to figure out what is needed (unless of course, you actually have Alchemist leveled, then you can just check in-game).
For someone like me though, who doesn't particularly want to level up a crafting class there's only a few options. 1) Gather all the base materials you will need, and have a friend who is a 5 star crafter, or at least a 3 star one. Then find a 5 star crafter for the actual Augmentation. or 2) Buy the materials directly that are needed to craft the Augmentation and then have one crafted (still fairly costly) or 3) (if possible/available) buy the Augmentation directly from the MB (likely the most costly method, but also the fastest way to acquire)
On the topic of Black Mages I really like the classic look that was posted a page or so back. I also enjoy seeing good variations with other workable color pallets.
(Just say no to rainbows, unless of course you trying for some kind of PRIDE look) <- Just my opinion. Not a fan of rainbow theme armors.

I'm disappointed they're allowed to since there's a storyline reason for why you should not be able to.

By the by, have they fixed it so dyes don't remove gloss yet? I haven't had an opportunity to check.
I'd like to be able to change my armors hue while keeping its specular sheen.

TBH, I don't know. I think it might work for newer armors, but I haven't exactly checked any of the older stuff.. though that's mostly because my tanks are still in their teens.
As far as AF goes, pretty sure they do keep gloss, ei. Drg and Pld AF.
I'm a fan of the BLM AF as is, but I would absolutely love to be able to dye/swap to a set that looks like the traditional Black Mage outfit (as seen in the OP). They're both great looking but one has nostalgia factor.
