ITT: People not reading the review themselves, but bandwagoning instead.

Before we take a look at Final Fantasy XIV, I want to preface this article with a disclosure. Here at MMORPG.com, we are aware that games are always patching and game updates are pending pretty much forever. However, until those changes are live on the servers, we cannot anticipate how they will affect the gameplay or community, and therefore those rumors and announcements do not affect the score card detailed below. We feel we’ve waited more than long enough to give FFXIV a fair shake. Check back with us later this year for an update after those changes are live.

10 months IS fair enough. Also, EVERY single patch so far has been the same thing with the community. "It's the patch that's going to fix the game!!!" And then it's an epic failure. "They're adding quests!!!!" "Wow, great, a few quests that serve no real purpose and haven't changed the game."

Repeat for just about everything in every patch.

They didn't have to even preface it as they did. That alone shows journalistic integrity, along with them saying that it will be re-reviewed later this year.

Oh so its ok to create magical review dates that conveniently make a game look bad even tho it wont even be the same game that is reviewed? That must be what they planned. Wait some odd days before major patch and revive old hatreds towards to game in an obvious attempt to keep new and old players away. Hate SE much?

How is it not going to be the same game being reviewed? MMOs change. Any MMO player reading a review on an MMO will realize this. The author probably stated "rumors" in reference to how everyone thinks every patch is the miracle patch. They mention the introduction of quests, the community claims content has arrived, patch installs, community is unhappy.

People at this point in time are pessimistic. SE has to prove themselves before people start reading too much into the promises. That's perfectly fair with their track record, and the very fact that tons of people in this thread have stated that the review was fair should be a big red flag for some of you.

Did it come at a bad time? Yes. However, if this patch hadn't been delayed twice, then this review wouldn't have come at such a bad time.

Don't kid yourselves into thinking that this review is what's going to hurt the game. The game is already hurting and you should be glad that they've said they will re-review it later this year AFTER the patches and that it got a higher score than quite a few previous reviews.

Edit: Also, it's kind of hard to say the author hates SE if you actually read the article.

Since the review has been delayed 10 months, they could have just delayed it more in order to keep it relevant.
That's what anyone with integrity would have done.

Don't kid yourselves into thinking that this review is what's going to hurt the game. The game is already hurting and you should be glad that they've said they will re-review it later this year AFTER the patches and that it got a higher score than quite a few previous reviews.

Honestly the hope is that this particular writer won't be allowed to taint the name of journalist anymore. Considering that they didn't review the game at launch, reviewing it four days before a major patch promising another review later simply doesn't make the slightest sense. Just wait for relevant changes to be made and then post a review. They already missed the train to review the game in it's launch state.

Edit: Also, it's kind of hard to say the author hates SE if you actually read the article.

Considering the widespread use of hyperbole in the review to add dramatization to the negative points, either she does, or she just copy pasted some hyperbolic forum posts without actually playing the game.

Or she's completely unable to get a point across without the use of hyperbole, in which case she should look for a different job.

Reviews like this increase the amount of pessimistic thought processes. The reason, and main reason, why this review is crap is because it failed to mention anything Yoshida and crew said is coming in the 1.18 patch in 4 days. No one is kidding themselves by thinking the review will hurt the game. anyone that doesnt keep up with these forums and reads that crap review will get an automatic negative image on the game, ESPECIALLY since she calls the changes coming in 4 days as 'rumors'. She intentionally wrote that first paragraph to aid in deterring newcomers, the rest is just old crap. who wants to start playing based on rumors? The author may not hate SE, but defiantly hates this game.

Exactly. She only mentions they did the graphics right, everything else stinks. She hasn't played the game enough to give a proper review on it. Didnt you notice the RANK1 PUGILIST with STARTER GEAR in her pictures.


Point is, don't do a review on something with major changes coming 4 days later. waste of time. Who cares if the patch is delayed. delay the review too then.
