Even though WoW wasn't my first MMO, it was my first introduction to raiding, and to me it wasn't just a single encounter, but Blackwing Lair was just awesome. You had not only plenty of bosses, but also things like the trash packs and the suppression room took strategy and a good amount of teamwork to clear. The bosses had a good amount different mechanics, stuff like positioning, tanks swaps, cleansing, some dps races, people had to pay attention to their own debuffs, or they could cause problems, and the mother of all randomness in Nefarion's class calls. There were aspects of of the fights that could easily wipe the raid, but it allowed for some mistakes too, not every mistake was deadly, if your group was paying attention, you could recover a lot of times.
