Then there's stuff like Virus and e4e which are still useful but seem to be something you throw out blind or as part of a damage-mitigation rotation rather than in response to boss mechanics. That there's so many of these abilities on our bars as unique class features were things that I was honestly hoping we'd see more of. However, after the 1st coil and HM primal mechanics (Think Mountain Buster needing to be debuffed when you were in lower ilvl parties,) but it feels like we actually see less and less.
I agree, a lot of those abilities are really circumstantial and therefore underused, they're mostly just used for that one single mechanic that needs them, One Ilm Punch is useless outside of the rare Stoneskin using enemy. It's also a side effect of mixing PvP effects with PvE abilities, same thing with Storm's Path and Miasma healing debuff when only one or two mobs self heal.

The FFXIV dev. team could probably benefit from the advice of Hironobu Sakaguchi:

"Looking back, my pre-Final Fantasy games failed because I kept copying what was on the market. So free yourself, and do what is good for the game."

    Wut.

So you point to T9 as a reflection of FFXIV as an entire whole? Yes, FFXIV ARR is an easy video game, pointing at literally one piece of content and then going "AHA!!!" doesn't make it not so.

Not looking at the market was what doomed 1.0 in the first place.

Even though WoW wasn't my first MMO, it was my first introduction to raiding, and to me it wasn't just a single encounter, but Blackwing Lair was just awesome. You had not only plenty of bosses, but also things like the trash packs and the suppression room took strategy and a good amount of teamwork to clear. The bosses had a good amount different mechanics, stuff like positioning, tanks swaps, cleansing, some dps races, people had to pay attention to their own debuffs, or they could cause problems, and the mother of all randomness in Nefarion's class calls. There were aspects of of the fights that could easily wipe the raid, but it allowed for some mistakes too, not every mistake was deadly, if your group was paying attention, you could recover a lot of times. At least for a while they continued this type of raiding in WoW, I also had a lot of fun with AQ20, and going into wrath there were some really nifty fights, Ulduar was pretty interesting, and the gunship in ICC, even though often referred to as a loot pinata, was just plain fun. Sadly though, I think after Wrath the raiding kind of went downhill, the introduction of the raid finder, having multiple tiers of the same gear, while I understand why, it was sort of turn off to me. Even after that though they still introduced some cool ideas like the flex raiding system.

Funny you point out BWL. Remember Razorgore? 40 mobs having to strategically be kited by hunters while mages and other DD took out enemies spawning in the corners of the room, while another player mind controls the boss and destroys eggs one by one. Yeah, that was one weird and interesting fight. I am still surprised we were able to coordinate it, since not only you had 40 people handling everything, but had 50+ mobs on screen at a time. Made you focus on the job you were assigned to do.

Yeah that fight was awesome, and the mindcontrolling tanks had to "tank swap" too, since I think you could only MC for like 60 seconds and then you would get the debuff, so tanks had to be fast at swapping, and then after handling all the eggs and adds, the actual boss fight started. And that was the entry fight, it was the first thing that welcomed you inside the raid.

Lol Again ONE dungeon does not determine the level of difficulty for the entire game. Also can you bring up another dungeon besides coil? You can't can you? If you like the difficulty of the game currently and its hard for you. Then say that but let's not act like this game is even close to challenging.

Whoah, dps races? Tank swaps? Cleansing?

You know that this game has that already.
