My point was that SE may be thinking about the general wellfare of every player in this game, which would be one of the reasons why it doesn't want parsers to be used. Parsers may encourage stigma for the 'bad' players, thereby making it impossible for these bad players to improve since no one wants to play with him/her. However, if that's their mentality on this issue, I think it's too far stretched to bite into. Yea, there are elitests. Yea, there are those jerks who will kick ppl out of party based on parsers results, telling everyone they know how much they suck (something I've seen firsthand; a few of my friends stil remain 'blacklisted' due to poor performance). However... this scenario is not typical, tbh. For every elistest misuing parsers there are like 10 people using it to identity and help their dps improve. Not to ridicule them. But to make them better and more kick-ass. I don't think SE gives our game community enough credit on how people use this tool.
Lemme rephrase. I see it as something like this. SE: "If you can't clear it now, you can either work on your gameplay and improve and try to down it, or you can wait as we gradually implement Echo and/or gradually nerf the content" Because that's really all it is. Of course they don't actually say it. Nerfing it too quickly too soon, and there's a group in the middle who will just wait instead of trying. Take too long and a different group just gets bored because they choose not to improve.

Also, I think it's more that certain people in the playerbase don't give the rest of the playerbase enough credit on how they use such a tool.

Well, you're not going to like it much when addons finally come around then. Your choice however.

Wow, horrible comparison. It's more like using a stopwatch instead of timing yourself by counting "one mississippi, two mississipi..."

Good point there! And your statement here definitely accounts for the division present here in the forums, with those pro and against parsers. It's a sensitive topic and yet, relevant because SE isn't currently doing a good job at telling individual players how they are performing in fights. We all want to be good players. And whether some of us can accept critiques or not, it would be nice to know how we are performing. If SE is opposed to parsers, then maybe they could implement a 'results' page, where players can individually see their own DPS at the end of, say, a dungeon or boss fight. Then they can use that number to improve on the next time they que. Even if they may still be lacking, at least players will get some clue of where they stand in fights and aim to improve on those numbers.
