Why FFXIV: ARR needs spanish support (and likely other languages.)

I bet there would be way more than there already are if they had the game in their language. I would think they could at least subtitle cs in spanish. I'm on a JP server with a small EN community and we even have a handful of ES speakers from different countries. There's even a guy from Spain that does not speak EN... THAT'S determination right there.

That's 1 person. Every game has fans in all languages. Just gotta be enough of them. And subtitles would cost the most since most of what goes on is in text with the occasional voice acting. And then you have to translate all future content aswell as advertising and so on.

Why not just do a fan translation? Lots of non localized games like monster hunter frontier are not in English but the fans themselves translated the text.

Basically just like a fan made mod.

You think SE would open the source for one of their successful games for the public? Think again.


Also, it seems there is already a good Spanish community here, how many more market shares could SE gain by investing in translators, voice actors, programmers, web designer, supporter etc.
I don't think a Spanish game client would be a bad idea but it should have been released with ARR. After all SE is a profit oriented company.

Sorry this just now caught my eye. It's possible to use Google Translate to do this but the whole copy and paste thing gets old fast. I have made some good friends in this game who mainly only speak Spanish. And yes this is a big part of why I made this thread /blush

He was not talking about google translate but actual fan made patches.
Look at how phantasy star online 2 does it atm. Nearly the whole game is translated into english by fans.

Unlikely. SE has a marketing department. It's their job to determine where their game will succeed. If FFXIV had enough support in Spanish-speaking countries they'd have made a Spanish version of the game. This game was marketed for Japan, US, and Europe not Central/South America. The marketing department did underestimate the initial response FFXOV had in those respective markets but I'm skeptical there is enough support to warrant a Spanish version of the game.
