It's never a good idea to have a pet be your main or even half of your DPS in my opinion.

Then why are there games where this works just fine?
Your opinion is irrelevant when there's examples of other games, even other genres, that pull it off just fine with less community backlash than FF14's "Affliction Warlock ripoff".

Honestly, the only thing that should be changed about Summoner is the name. Make an entirely new class that actually represents the summoner archetype that's displayed in the vast majority of games out there. We're not asking for 0% Avatar DPS with a 50ft hulking minion of death that one-shots S-rank hunts. Just something that actually feels and operates like a summoner.
