If you set your online status to "Busy" via the /busy command or Edit Search Info, you will block all incoming tells or party invite. I think it should also block incoming FC invites.

Then again, if you don't want to be part of any FC you can always form one yourself but you will need 3 other players to sign the petition (They can leave afterward).

Could you kindly explain how to do this step by step? I literally just got the game a couple of days ago, and am pretty much in the dark on a lot of things. I'd appreciate it.

Yup, typing /busy into your chat bar sets your status to busy and again to reset it.
