So, because of a minority, the whole EU population has to be screwed to move away from their own servers? So those are not really EU servers after all, right? Not to mention that nowhere in-game does it say "hey, be aware that these EU servers are not placed in the EU", so many outsiders (besides an informed minority that visits the forums and whatnot) are choosing these based on other preferences aside from the ping that they might have.
Why couldn't said minority, playing in servers not intended for them, bear with the latency issues that they will suffer if the servers are moved, but it's ok that many EU players are suffering them in their very own servers right now? Do you really see that fair or logical? I don't. If anything give free transfers out of said EU servers if they were moved, but not the opposite, as it wouldn't make sense that it would be the main population the one that had to move away from their own servers.
If the situation was the opposite and the NA servers were placed in the EU I would be fine with them being moved out to America, even if I was playing in one of them, without giving their population any more headaches. It would be logical to put the primary server population over the rest, and I would had know that risk when choosing a NA tagged server (as things can and do change).
I'll say it again, and more clearly, hopefully. Europe ≠ International. EU players shouldn't have to take any extra mile, either to play normally (tunneling software) or to have servers located in Europe (transfers out of EU servers). If anyone has taken them for international servers when they aren't tagged as such, they made a mistake. They, not the players that actually thought about them as European servers, specially when nowhere in-game does it say that they aren't.
It's understandable that SE didn't want to risk more money with FFXIV's relaunch, and I understood it and even defended them during the beta when the new datacenter locations where announced, but now that the game is doing fine I would like to know if there's any real excuse as to not move the Chaos datacenter to Europe. Is it even being considered at all?
And remember that this isn't just about "you" (not directed at the quoted one) or "me". It's about many people that have issues when playing overseas and that would notice a great improvement if the servers where located close to us. We have to play with these people, after all, so even if "you" and "me" don't have any issues, it can affect us too in the end. Unless you say "screw them", of course.
Currently there's "three" (well, two, but you know what I mean) datacenters: Japan, North America, and Europe. I know that it's not fair for oceanic, south american, and even west coast players, but that's a whole different issue. The fact is that there does exist an EU datacenter and it's located in Canada. And that causes issues to many players, both those currently playing and also many that left the game because of it.
That's wonderful news, and I didn't know it. Do you have any source for that info, please?
