So, because of a minority, the whole EU population has to be screwed to move away from their own servers? So those are not really EU servers after all, right? Not to mention that nowhere in-game does it say "hey, be aware that these EU servers are not placed in the EU", so many outsiders (besides an informed minority that visits the forums and whatnot) are choosing these based on other preferences aside from the ping that they might have.

We don't really know whether the non-EU players really are a minority though, or if they are, by how much.. If there's 1000 people who have characters on Phoenix for example that are non-EU, compared to say 3000 people who are from the EU, the non-EU might be a minority, but forcing 1000 people to a different datacenter is definitely not good publicity. Only Square has those numbers though, so only they can make the final decision.

The EU tag is basically meant to indicate that those servers have most players online during EU prime time, not that those servers are in the EU. They have said that multiple times. I agree that it's confusing though, especially for new players who will think those servers are located in the EU, as, like you said, there's no indication they wouldn't be.

Note that I'm not against EU servers physically being in the EU, but I don't think all of a sudden moving the current datacenter is a good idea, especially after the game's been out for almost a year and communities have been built already.

Is there a way to improve ping to the eu server? I live in the UK and when ever I do titan extreme on my screen im clearly out of the plume but I still get hit by it, my friend has the exact same issue. You can even see his dead body clearly out of the way of the plume when the server catches up.

I think there are programs u can run to redirect your connection, but whether SE allows there use i dont know

Any third party program that meddles between the game client and the servers are not allowed and you risk your account on using it. If a program cannot or is hard to be detected (as gaming vpn) does not means you can use it safely.

A service like WTfast or Battleping is allowed (been confirmed by Square, just can't find the post) ... They don't do anything to either the client or the server, they just allow for more optimal routing. Using WTFast I can dodge plumes purely on reaction alone, except when people stack wrong of course

Using 3rd party is always a risk. Just see the app that have added its well known 'radar'...

The very first line in the post you link to says a tunnelling software doesn't directly control anything in the FFXIV client, and is therefor not breaking any rules. In other words, it's perfectly fine to use. Now, if that tunnelling service all of a sudden decided to add a feature that displays information in your FFXIV client (like the radar app does), then it will be breaking rules, and then you can get banned for using it.

That said, Square Enix does state in the EULA that they can ban whoever they want for whatever reason, so always use common sense

I live in Europe. I play on a NA server and I'll stay on it because I have friends there and whatnot, but I definitely do support a "real" European server. I personally think it's a joke that they basically slap a EU sign on a NA server and call it a day.

On the long-term i think the quality of the service (incl servers close to your clients) is important to keep your clients subscribed, especially in a competititive environment like MMO. Just my 2 cents anyway, i'm no expert.
