The concept of a FC is certainly not dead...

And by 'concept' I mean 'barrier to housing/chocobo raising/gardening/etc.' of course...

I'd be glad to see less focus on FCs, personally. At most, they should just be a list of members in whatever organized hierarchy each decides upon, but personally a lack of guilds entirely is preferable.

Just on the whole raid group issue that the OP brought up, I have played MMOs for a long while. I've done plenty of endgame crap in plenty of games. I've had static groups, raiding guilds, and set times of the day/week where I needed to be online and doing stuff with those groups. And you know what... I kind of hate it. I don't like being held to a schedule in a video game that I am playing to relax. I don't want to join a static group to do things at the exact same time on the exact same day of the week every single week. I actually prefer tossing the dice with PUG/PF groups than committing myself to a static. I'm sick of my video gaming being more stressful and strenuous than my actual job, so I'm playing this game far more casually. No statics. No endgame BS drama. etc etc etc. And you know what... I'm having more fun with this MMO than in any of the others in which I did join raiding guilds/statics/whatever and did commit myself to being at certain places certain times etc etc etc. Life is so much better, so much easier, and so much more fun without all of the endgame BS drama, scheduling, commitments, and so on. So now I'm wondering why I ever bothered with them in the past.

This game plays like a single player RPG most of the time. I don't even know why they bothered putting it online, to be honest. If I can play it like a single player RPG, and enjoy doing it that way, I really have no reason whatsoever to join a big raiding FC or whatever. I'll stick with my small group of friends that occasionally do things together when there are enough of us on with nothing to do. No schedules. No drama. Just friends hanging out. You can keep all that crap for yourself, I don't need or want any part of it anymore. Maybe I'm getting old, but eh, I just don't find that sort of thing fun anymore.

You are trying to drive a bus, on a unpaved dirt road that requires an ATV.

You do not need a FC for a raid group.

What is a FC for? It is designed for a HUGE (512) group of players, and is about the group helping each other and grow together. Look at all the FC actions, and how much of it is geared for end-game play?

If you want a static raid group, you are better off building it with a LS where the focus can be more concentrated.

Seriously, last thing you want your FC to have is an elitist core (aka static) group.

No, you missed the whole point of my post I guess. You come at the FCs in the game as if they are 100% useless. I simply pointed out that you stated everything to an extreme; saying quote: "There are no advantages to being in a guild in XIV in all honesty.".

You speak about the FC topic from the PoV that guilds are only for hardcore players and hardcore content. This may be your desire or experience, however your experience doesn't constitute the reality of others. I was helping you consider that maybe the casual players enjoy the benefits that do indeed exist in a FC.

You stated there "Is no way "" "" to do various things related to FC without expressing what your idea of how things should work is. I was adding perspective, showing there is indeed a way to do all that stuff. Surely there is room for discussion on improvements that could be made to these things. To simply state it's useless is just negative nonsense. Try suggestions for ideas you have to make the game more to your liking instead.

I am not doubting that things are not up to your personal preference, you made that clear. I guess what I should have said was "be more constructive with critique". I thought my final point about the game still growing was very important also. You spoke as if it's all broken and there is no hope for improvement.

tl;dr all FCs do in this game is give you a bank, an extra chat channel, a house, and mediocre buffs.
Well my points were just short rhetorical examples of ways that DO exist (albeit needing improvements) to do the things referred to in the "no way to ....." statements. I could spend all day thinking about things they could do better and add, but that wasn't my intention. I was pointing out the lack of constructiveness in the post.

I think it's because most people are followers and not leaders.

How often do we hear "we started, but everyone dropped". It takes some effort to keep a group going. It's not going to happen with poor leadership or lack of motivation to manage a group. It's like tanks in 4mans. People rather play dps/healer because they can follow, less responsibility.

I hope SE will give us two modes. One easy enough so it can be pugged. The other one with the difficulty we have now or maybe even more difficult. Give loot the same ilvl but other aesthetics (color).

That's a derisive way of saying it. Most people, playing a game for entertainment, don't want the added tasks and responsibility of leading a FC. Some people who want to lead a FC are megalomaniacs and narcissists. Then, every once in a while, you find a group of people who easily work together and share the tasks, or a person willing and able to lead without any need for power or attention.

IMHO, FCs and linkshells should have their member caps switched.

The game spends it's entire design philosiphy on making group play or a sense of community the last thing on peoples mind. You spend the entire trip to 50 mostly solo and beyond that you only ever "need" people for Binding coil.
